Angela Bassett Talks Amanda Waller, Teases 2nd Green Lantern

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Amanda Waller is a United States government agent, former head of the Suicide Squad (a sort of mercenary supervillain group working on the US’s behest), became both White Queen and Black King of the secret agency known as Checkmate, was the secretary of Meathuman Affairs under President Lex Luthor before his administration went all pear-shaped and isn’t afraid to bitch out Batman. Without a single superpower and very little sympathy for those who have them, she has held the lives of countless more powerful characters in her hands while building the United States’ ability to control and defeat the very superheroes who have pledged to keep it safe… should we ever need to. She’s also an African-American woman of a non-idealized body type, and that alone makes her something unique in the DC Universe.

It’s awesome to know that she’s getting any big-screen treatment at all, much less that it’s going to grow over time.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
