Alright even Jack Black had to step in over the ‘Minecraft’ audience debacle

Jack Black as Steve in A Minecraft Movie

People are acting extremely foolish at screening’s of Minecraft. To be fair, I have not played the game. But tell me why a man brought a chicken?! To a movie theater?!?!? And it wasn’t for Chicken Run??

We want people to head back to movie theaters. That’s part of what many of us have been pushing for. Championing our new favorite movies and encouraging others to go and see them in theaters when they can. But throwing popcorn and making a mess of things for employees to clean up isn’t the move either. And star Jack Black stood up to defend the theatre employees (and beg audiences to act accordingly).

“For today’s presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please no throwing popped corn, and also no Lapis Lazuli, and also absolutely no Chicken Jockey,” he told the audience as posted by The Hollywood Handle on X. Again, I am assuming that Chicken Jockey is why there was a chicken there but also I don’t know.

On the one hand, it is great that a movie like Minecraft is out performing. It makes me feel like the movies are coming back and that’s exciting! On the other hand, being very disruptive isn’t something that works with the return to the cinema.

I understand the excitement, I do. I took have been in a theater and wanted to cheer and shout. Remember when we all cheered during Avengers: Endgame? Interacting with a movie isn’t a bad thing. But causing a mess and being general disruptive isn’t the right move.

Honestly, if theaters wanted to host “rowdy” screenings that allowed for this stuff, that’s their choice and they’d at least be aware of the mess they have to tackle later. But otherwise, it’s just mean to theater employees.

So, listen to Jack Black and be kind while watching Minecraft. And don’t bring a chicken with you.
