Anyone who has been in a long-distance relationship knows that the airport goodbye can be brutal. But one man says he just discovered something that could make those goodbyes a little less painful.

TikTok creator Rory (@roryiell) posted a video that got over 904,700 views, where he shared his disbelief over a feature he says he had no idea existed: airport guest passes.

What Are Airport Guest Passes?

“Who was gonna tell me that airports actually had guest passes where you could stay with your partner when they’re sitting and waiting for their gate to board?” he asks.

Instead of doing the classic emotional goodbye at the TSA line, Rory says he could have possibly been spending more time with his girlfriend while she waited at the gate.

“’Cause this whole time I’ve been trying to calculate, you know what I’m saying?” he continues. “Get in there early and to calculate, like, making sure I have enough time with my girl.”

Then he says what every person in the comments was probably thinking, too.

“Y’all don’t really mess with me. For real, bro,” he says. “Cause why didn’t I know about this, bro?”

Are Guest Passes Really a Thing?

Airport guest passes are indeed real, though they’re somewhat of a new concept and not as common as other airport services.

As of June 2026, CNN reports that only 21 airports have some version of this program in the U.S., including Kansas City International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Albuquerque International Airport, and more.

With this pass, a guest can walk a loved one to their gate, meet a family member as they arrive, help a traveler who needs extra assistance, or even go inside to eat, shop, listen to live music, check out art, or plane-watch.

However, there are rules. Guests usually have to apply online or at an airport kiosk, and they must use the full name that appears on their Real ID or passport. Then, they still have to be approved. CNN reports that some airports allow same-day approvals at a kiosk, while most online applications send approval within 24 hours of the requested visit.

Once they get there, they still go through TSA like everyone else. They have to show their approved pass and ID, and they cannot use TSA PreCheck or any other shortcut. Plus, each airport sets its own limits for when guests can enter, how long they can stay, where they can go, and what they can bring.

Commenters Had Varying Experiences

In the comments, some people said Rory was absolutely right, and that guest passes are a real thing.

“Did long distance for 2 yrs. Yup, it’s a thing,” one commenter wrote.

“Another thing I’ve learned on TikTok university,” another said.

Others said they had either used one themselves or had been able to spend extra time with a partner before a flight.

“Doing long distance for the past 6 months dating and 6 months of us being bestfriends before, delta does a pass to let your partner walk you/you walk with your partner to the gate needed before boarding,” one person wrote. “My boyfriend sat with me for 30 minutes it was the best thing ever.”

But not everyone’s request was approved.

“Nah they just denied me when I tried to sit with my 16yr old,” one commenter said.
