Airbnb guest checks out of summer rental. Then the host hits them with an $865 fee after looking inside the hot tub: ‘gets super nasty super quick’

That sounds too much

Imagine leaving an Airbnb and discovering an $865 fee for draining and unplugging the hot tub. A man on TikTok, crazybnbstories, claims he will charge his previous guests this substantial fee for those actions. “An Airbnb guest is getting hit with a massive fee for emptying and unplugging my entire hot tub, and I don’t know why they thought this would be a good idea. And the fee does vary. This fee is gonna be $865,” he said in the opening of his video.

Before anyone says anything, crazybnbstories said the fee provisions are already included in the contract guests receive beforehand. He also said the amount is basically for guests who stay at the property the next day, if any. “They really should know not to do this because I mentioned it. Multiple places I’ve seen people unplug it, but never unplug and empty it. I don’t know why they even drained it. I need a full new service, which is gonna be $200,’ he said.

Explaining the extent of hassle he would have to face under such circumstances, crazybnbstories mentioned, “It gets super nasty super quick, especially in the summer. And the other guests might not be able to use it. I count for at least one night just in case to be safe. Now we’re gonna refill it, charge them, and have the next guest hopefully still able to enjoy it.”

Crazybnbstories also clarified for those curious that the amount he will be collecting from the guests wouldn’t directly go to his pocket. Instead, he said it would go toward refilling and cleaning the hot tub, paying the next guest, and giving them a partial refund. He added, “With no next guest, no fee. If there’s a next guest and it doesn’t work for a day or two, a bigger fee.”

“I would NOT rent from this guy”

Later in his video, Crazybnbstories asked for viewers’ opinions, saying, “I think that’s more than fair, but what do you guys think?” The comments flooded in, with over 400 responses showing a split in opinions. Some believed his actions were justified, while others disagreed.

One commenter stated, “I am not sitting in a hot tub with water from another guest. if your tub can’t be emptied, filled and warm in 12 hours you need a new tub.” Another person wrote, “The number of comments that expect airBNB to drain and clean hot tubs between guests is mind blowing. I wouldn’t expect that.”

Some people in the comments said Crazybnbstories’ actions are why people don’t use Airbnbs these days and are seeking alternatives. One person wrote, “this is WHY people are going back to motels\hotel.” Another said, “I hope to hell airbnb goes under. it’s gotten to the point that getting a hotel room is better. Again….”

Crazybnbstories’s TikTok profile contains many such stories, causing people to doubt its authenticity. In a later video, a viewer asked if he truly owns any Airbnbs. ‘I’m convinced this guy doesn’t own any air bnbs,” they commented. He hasn’t addressed this suspicion, and his profile description alone doesn’t confirm whether his stories are genuine.
