After 21 hours, JD Vance admits that Iran and the US still has no agreement

Vice President JD Vance announced that the United States and Iran have not reached an agreement regarding the war after 21 hours of rigorous negotiations.

“We’ve been at it now for 21 hours. We’ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians—that’s the good news. The bad news is that we haven’t reached an agreement, and I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it is bad news for the United States of America,” Vance said in a press conference.

Pakistan was involved in the negotiations, and Vance praised them for hosting the talk. Notably, the country is significantly exposed to the Iran war. 85% of Pakistan’s oil and gas is imported from the Gulf nations, which subsequently pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“We go back to the United States having not come to an agreement. We’ve made very clear what our red lines are, what things we’re willing to accommodate them on, and what things we aren’t willing to accommodate them on, and we’ve made that as clear as we possibly could,” Vance claimed.

Going to war to end the war

President Donald Trump wasn’t too concerned about the outcome. In a report hours before the end of the negotiation, he told the reporters, “Maybe they make a deal, maybe they don’t. It doesn’t matter. From the standpoint of America, we win.”

What was the outline of the deal? According to a report by Al Jazeera, the ten-point deal involves a commitment of non-aggression from the US, the withdrawal of US forces from all bases in the Middle East, the lifting of sanctions and resolutions against Iran, full compensation for the damages suffered by Iran during the war, and, controversially, the acceptance of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program. The other points can be found here. But the highlighted points above stand out precisely because the United States went to war for these reasons.

The Trump administration has repeatedly called Iran’s leadership a rogue, terrorist regime. Trump and his cabinet have also cited Iran’s nuclear enrichment program as a justification for attacking the country. And now, the alleged ten-point deal includes the United States withdrawing from the Middle East entirely. A confirmed list of the ten-point deal has not been released by the White House. If these are the terms of the deal, it would appear as though the United States is leaving worse off.

But there’s doubt to be had about the nature of the deal, especially when the Iranians have refused it even though the terms greatly appeal to their side of the table.

Where is Trump?

During these crucial moments, where is the President of the United States? Fox News reported that Trump arrived in Miami to attend UFC 327. In attendance with Trump is Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Oddly enough, Trump said in previous interviews that Rubio was involved in negotiations with the Iranians.

If that’s true, why would he be at a sporting event instead of flying with Vance to Islamabad? The outrage isn’t just about optics or sensitivities. It’s about where the president’s priorities lie, especially at such an important moment. The war is still ongoing and unresolved—and yet the administration appears disinterested in the outcome. While the rest of the world bites their nails, the president of the United States and one of his senior officials decided to watch a bunch of dudes duke it out on a ring.
