A truck driver is reeling after a $34,000 fine was issued for his deadly cargo that had Texas border officers doing a double-take
No more road trips for this trucker.

A truck driver is facing a massive $34,824 fine after federal agents at the Texas border uncovered a cargo of 39 live pythons hidden inside his vehicle. This isn’t just a small-time bust; it’s a significant penalty for an export violation that definitely had US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in shock.
According to BroBible, the whole situation unfolded earlier this month at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas. Officers from the CBP Office of Field Operations were on duty when they encountered a 2021 Peterbilt tractor-trailer. As part of their routine, the driver, the truck, and its trailer were all selected for a thorough inspection. When asked about any prohibited goods, the driver gave a negative declaration, basically saying there was nothing to worry about.
During the inspection, CBP officers hit the jackpot, or perhaps, the snake pit. They located 39 pythons carefully concealed within the vehicle. This wasn’t some accidental hitchhiker situation, either. It turns out the driver absolutely knew these slithery passengers were on board. It’s a wild parallel to that recent story about a woman in Florida who drove her car to a fire station with a python chilling in her dashboard.
You just never know what people are trying to transport!
After the discovery, the pythons were immediately taken into custody by the US Fish and Wildlife Service officials. They needed to be moved pretty quickly to a controlled environment because of their condition. Exporting live reptiles from the United States to Mexico isn’t a simple task; it’s governed by a whole host of national and international laws designed to prevent the smuggling of wildlife. Breaking those rules comes with a steep price.
Beyond the hefty fine, the CBP officers also confiscated both the trailer and the tractor involved in the incident. This means the driver isn’t just out a bunch of cash; they’re also out their mode of transport, which is a huge deal for someone in the trucking business. Homeland Security Investigations and the Fish and Wildlife Service are still actively looking into the situation.
Port Director Alberto Flores, who oversees the Laredo Port of Entry, emphasized the importance of this kind of vigilance. He stated, “The interception of live pythons at the World Trade Bridge highlights the vigilance and dedication of our CBP officers in enforcing laws that protect both our borders and our environment. CBP remains committed to preventing the illegal importation and exportation of wildlife and ensuring compliance with all federal regulations.”
