A Fitness Influencer Was Having Her Morning Run. Then She Was Chased to a Bordering County by a Man in a Car: ‘You Did Not Overreact’

Women are often met with the unfortunate reality that they are unsafe in public spaces. Cassie (@cassiebfitness), who is a fitness influencer, was out on her usual morning run. What started out as her everyday routine devolved into a chase to the police station.
Cassie told TikTok that a man with a car was following her. She filmed the interaction while she was jogging.
“This guy drove by me, and he rolled down his window,” she said while running. Cassie said that he asked her how her jog was going and found it odd.
“That’s never happened to me in any of my runs,” she said. The car drove by her once more. It wasn’t exactly tailing behind her, but it kept passing her.
“No one has ever stopped. And he drove by really slow, and I didn’t like it. Then he got to the bottom of the hill, and he turned around, and he just drove by me again,” Cassie relayed. She was admittedly afraid, but to make matters worse, the car had no license plate.
“He’s literally following me. I need to call the police,” Cassie said when she noticed the car coming back. She was armed with a tazer, but even that didn’t calm her nerves.
“Are you straight or a lesbian?” The man stopped his car to talk to Cassie once more.
“I’m straight and I’m not interested. Please leave me alone,” Cassie told him before taking off. According to her, the car stopped in the middle of the road and wouldn’t leave. Cassie would eventually reach the police station and be escorted back home with authorities.
A run gone wrong
When Cassie got home, she explained that she went on a six-mile run on her usual trail. It was six in the morning, and she claimed that she lived in a “very rural place” with no running paths. Although the trails she ran resembled country roads, running in the morning was routine for her. But houses are also spread out where she’s from. Because it was so early in the morning, nobody was out of the homes, which made Cassie’s situation even more precarious.
Cassie went to a sideroad, but just as she was about to turn around, the car came up from behind her. Even during their initial interaction, Cassie felt uneasy. Instinctually, she felt something was amiss with the man.
The man continued to try and make conversation with Cassie, and he was driving in the direction she was running. It seems that the man was extremely determined to follow Cassie, because just when she thought he’d finally driven off, the car re-emerged and drove by her the second time.
Knowing that the car was following her, Cassie took a detour to a sidestreet. Her husband was at home, asleep with their daughter, so she knew calling wouldn’t make a difference. Because of that, Cassie decided to keep running.
Chased to a different county
She ran far, into another neighborhood, checking behind her every time. Just when she thought she’d finally shaken him off, she saw the white car at a distance. At this point, Cassie was already recording, and she asked the man to leave her alone.
She was already at the border of a different county because of how far he’d chased her. Cassie called the police, but there was no sheriff near her. The police had to contact officials from Cassie’s county to escort her home.
Cassie waited ten minutes, on call with a phone operator who “didn’t seem concerned.” But the police arrived, and Cassie was able to get home safely. Nevertheless, social media commenters were distraught by Cassie’s experience. One woman who claimed to be a cop of eight years told her, “You did not overreact.”
Perhaps Cassie’s instincts saved her from a potentially disastrous situation.
