‘He starts going through my bags’: Woman is accused of not scanning an item at Walmart, then they offer her a gift card
A series of unfortunate events and a somewhat happy ending

Being blamed for stealing is one thing, but being repeatedly accused of the same theft is another. Tiktok user thatssokeezy’s Walmart experience was shocking, to say the least. In a TikTok video, she shared that staff questioned her multiple times about a steak, insisting she confirm whether she had bought it.
The first accusation came at the self-checkout. After thatssokeezy scanned three items, a woman at the counter accused her of failing to scan everything in her cart. The woman then allegedly watched a video showing thatssokeezy scanning all the items, before checking her bag and confirming that everything had been paid for.
thatssokeezy might have gotten past one hurdle, but another was waiting right after.
“I pay for my stuff, I get my receipt, and I’m walking out the door. As I’m walking out, I could already tell something wasn’t right because a bunch of people were by the door talking on walkie-talkies,” she said.
According to thatssokeezy, a man then came up to her, asked to see her receipt, and began going through her bag. When she asked if there was a problem, he accused her of not paying for the steak. thatssokeezy said she explained that she had already been questioned by the woman at self-checkout and that the incident had been resolved after the woman reviewed the footage. However, they didn’t seem convinced.
thatssokeezy said that people started calling her into a room for questioning, but she was reluctant because she didn’t do anything wrong. Then she claimed another woman came up to her and threatened to call the sheriff’s office. After they arrived a few minutes later, thatssokeezy eventually went into the room for questioning, fearing arrest.
“They take me in there, they start going through all my stuff. The Walmart employees had, like, this little machine where they scan my receipt. And then they started scanning each and every item to see which ones I paid for and which ones I didn’t,” thatssokeezy explained.
She added, “So then we get to the magic item, which was the steak. They scan the receipt, and they scan the steak, it pops up and it says that it was paid for. And I’m like, I told you, I knew I paid for it.”
After this incident, the officers allegedly apologized to thatssokeezy, and the store manager came up to her and offered her a gift card.
“A gift card? How much is a gift card? So I left out of Walmart with a thousand dollar gift card. As long as I agree not to press charges. But I’m still gonna press charges,” thatssokeezy said in her concluding remarks.
‘I would still sue’
Given the extent of the allegations against thatssokeezy, many people in the comments suggested she take stricter action against Walmart. One user wrote, “I would still sue + add in there that they tried to bribe you with that $1000 gift card to stay quiet about their actions.”
Another said, “If they didn’t make you sign anything about not taking action, you can still keep the cards and sue them.”
A few others added valuable points. One user commented, “I don’t stop for receipt checkers. If you don’t wanna have cashiers then you gotta trust me and you can’t stop me from walking by.”
“Walmart also has employees that are prejudiced, if you notice if you’re black or brown they would ask to see your receipt but if you’re white they won’t,” another user remarked.
People can easily complain if they have an issue with Walmart’s customer service
‘Walmart Ethics’ website allows customers to lodge complaints if needed. Customers can either speak with customer/member service or a manager at a Walmart store or Sam’s Club, or call Walmart Customer Service at 1-800-Walmart (1-800-925-6278). They can also contact Sam’s Club Member Service at 1-888-746-7726.
However, surprisingly enough, thatssokeezy did not take the issue further. If she had, she could have probably settled for something more than a $1000 gift card. thatssokeezy should take a lesson or two from this woman from Portland on this topic.
