Florida Domino’s driver delivers pizza. Then the customer hands him $30—there’s just one problem: ‘I’m gonna knock him out’

Anyone who has ordered pizza for delivery knows there are different payment methods. Typically, it’s easiest to digitally purchase your food at the online checkout. However, there are still customers who prefer to pay in the old-school way: tangible cash. But what blindsided this Domino’s driver was a sack of change.

Domino’s Driver Was Paid…In What?

As he sits in his car, Florida Domino’s driver Travis Bruce (@travidoris) vents his frustration about his latest delivery.

“This motherf– just handed me this,” he says, pulling out a small, plastic bag packed with silver coins. “I’m about to go back and knock this motherf– out.”

Why does the content creator feel so irritated? Because the customer told him they had $30 to $40; he didn’t expect it to be in change. 

However, Bruce insisted in the caption, “It was an 80 dollar bill and this wasn’t the tip!”

Viewers Had Varied Thoughts

Bruce’s clip garnered over 8,000 views and very mixed reactions in the comments section.

“Straight to coinstar I would go,” one viewer commented.

“He handed you legal tender,” a second joked.

“Some of those coins could be worth more!” a third stated.

“I’d make him count it out,” a fourth remarked.

“It’s money. What’s the problem?” a fifth asked.

Further in the comments section, Bruce alleged, “Barely paid [the customer’s] bill” and that “I panicked and thought the store would take it and they’re like nah gtfo lmao.”

Can You Pay Your Delivery Driver In Coins?

According to the Federal Reserve, there is no statute forcing private businesses, a person, or an organization to accept currency or cash as a form of payment unless it’s state law. And in Bruce’s home state of Florida, there isn’t a state rule requiring businesses to accept cash, though Miami-Dade has regulations, per the Miami Herald.

On the other hand, in terms of Domino’s itself, alleged employees in a r/Dominos subreddit don’t believe that “corporate has a hard rule on it,” arguing this “depends on [the] store.” Thus, some stated that accepting coins can be up to the “driver’s discretion,” “a case-by-case basis,” or “how it’s presented.”

An alleged manager elaborated, “We take coins at my store; however, when presented with it on a delivery, I encourage my drivers to and have myself [have] the customer count it out in full before relinquishing the product to them. We also don’t accept rolled change from customers and have them unroll and count it as well, having had everything from fishing weights to metal washers used to fill them in the past.”
