Woman Gets Diagnosed With Terminal Cancer. Then Her Husband Runs Off With His Niece. So She Spends His Money Crossing Off Every Item on Her Bucketlist

Getting diagnosed with a terminal illness is about the worst news one could ever hear. The most important factor then becomes your support system: Family, friends, and, if you’re married, your spouse.

One woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer, however, says her husband did the exact opposite of supporting her through it. In fact, she says he did something even worse.

Danielle Salazar (@dandydani87) has been documenting her journey on TikTok. She’s dealing with both a terminal illness and a painful separation from her husband, while still maintaining a lighthearted spirit.

In a more recent video, she shares how she plans to spend the time she has left. She also gets a little revenge on her husband in the process.

She Decides To Start Crossing Off Her Bucket List

“My name is Danielle Salazar. I have terminal cancer. Sucks,” Salazar begins.

Then, she gets into what happened with her marriage.

“My husband just ran off with his biological niece, who he’s groomed since she was 15,” she alleges. “She’s of age now. Also sucks.”

Rather than letting everything that’s happened stop her from enjoying the time she has left, however, Salazar says she’s decided to start spending her money on everything she wants to experience.

“Come with me while I spend all my money,” she says.

Then she corrects herself.

“Oh, wait. Actually, because we’re married, I was able to access both his bank accounts here and in Mexico,” she says. “So come with me while I spend all his money doing everything that I wanna do before I die.”

Salazar then walks away from the camera, revealing that she’s standing near Sentinel Mesa in Monument Valley, on Navajo Nation land near the Utah-Arizona border. Her video got over 8.3 million views.

Previous Videos Reveal More About What She Has Been Through

In the comments of a previous video, Salazar explained more about her cancer diagnosis.

She says she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and underwent treatment through 2022, 2023, and 2024. Even after having a hysterectomy, however, she says the cancer returned as peritoneal carcinoma. She added that she now has calcified tumors throughout her body that doctors cannot operate on.

Less than a month before finding out about her husband, Salazar had also shared a much happier video of the two of them together.

“January 19th, 2026 i was watching shooting stars and the aurora with my husband,” she wrote in the video’s text overlay.

At that point, Salazar says neither of them knew the cancer would return.

“I want to wrap my arms around both of us in this video and my heart breaks for what they’re about to go through,” she added in the caption.

Research Has Found A Gender Gap When A Spouse Gets Sick

Unfortunately, Salazar’s experience of having a marriage fall apart after becoming seriously ill isn’t unheard of.

One famous study followed 515 married patients diagnosed with malignant brain tumors, other solid tumors, or multiple sclerosis. After diagnosis, 20.8% of marriages ended in separation or divorce when the patient was a woman. When the patient was a man, that figure was just 2.9%.

A Psychology Today article discussing a 2025 study that reached a similar conclusion offered some possible explanations. The researchers suggested traditional caregiving roles could play a part.

Wives are often expected to take on the caregiver role, meaning couples may struggle more when the wife becomes the one who needs care.

Another possible factor is that some men may enter marriages expecting to be cared for. When the situation reverses and they’re suddenly expected to provide intensive care themselves, some may choose to leave rather than step into that role.

Viewers Are Rooting For Salazar

“Um, Danielle you dropped this,” one commenter wrote, attaching a photo of a crown.

Another viewer needed clarification on one particularly shocking part of Salazar’s story.

“Wait, ran off with his sisters kid?!?” they asked.

“His brothers but yuuuuup,” Salazar responded.

Meanwhile, another commenter encouraged her. “Open a [expletive] ton of credit cards! spend spend spend!” they wrote.

Others suggested bucket list items.

“Queen I think you should try fresh sushi at the Tokyo market, and all inclusive in Aruba, got to the Patagonia in Argentina so beautiful and why not watch the northern lights in Norway,” one viewer wrote.
