California Woman Survives Mortifying Travel Humiliation After Two Back-to-Back Airport Disasters: ‘I was Going to Pass Away’
Hope the rest of her trip went uneventfully.

A long travel day requires a thick skin. Because when exhaustion lowers your social radar, it leaves you vulnerable to awkward mishaps. Sadly, California creator Larissa Olson’s (@larissa.olson) routine flight and terminal layover delivered a rapid-fire double dose of embarrassment.
In a hilarious TikTok, Olson detailed how an innocent moment of inflight affection, followed by an airport restroom blunder turned into an unforgettable comedy of errors. “I’m not a person who’s easily embarrassed, but I just had two of the most embarrassing airport experiences of my life.”
The back-to-back moments of pure awkwardness left Olson wishing she could disappear into thin air. But travel bloopers are inevitable when exhaustion sets in. If you find yourself in an awkward terminal mix-up, laughing it off is the best way to survive the trip.
A misidentified backrub triggered immediate inflight humiliation
The awkward sequence began mid-flight while Olson was sitting beside her husband. She was allegedly resting her elbows on the tray table while watching a show with noise-canceling earbuds. Feeling someone gently rubbing her back, she assumed her partner was offering a sweet gesture to help her unwind after hours of transit.
Deciding to play along, Olson turned around with an exaggerated, seductive smirk plastered across her face. To her instant horror, she wasn’t locking eyes with her husband. She was making a bizarre face directly at a flight attendant, who had only been tapping her shoulder to ask her to raise her tray table for landing.
“So I turn my head towards him to give him that look and be like… it’s the flight attendant tapping my back to tell me to raise my tray table… she’s like, ‘Just put your tray table up.’ So that was already horrible.” Such embarrassing incidents with flight attendants are more common than we think. But this wasn’t the end of embarrassment for Olson.
A faulty bathroom lock caused public stall humiliation
Hoping to leave the incident behind the moment she stepped off the jet bridge, Olson headed straight for the airport restrooms. While using a stall that failed to latch securely, her peace was allegedly shattered when another traveler began pushing the door open.
Despite Olson repeatedly shouting that the stall was occupied, the incoming passenger allegedly pushed the door wide open. In her defense, the passenger was reportedly wearing noise-canceling headphones and was buried in her phone while hauling multiple bags.
Olson remained frozen on the seat as the distracted traveler finally looked up. To her horror, she stood in the doorway apologizing for several agonizing seconds, and only then pulled the door shut. But hey, at least she didn’t have to witness a bizarre bathroom scene like one Target customer.
Mortified by the second disaster of her trip, Olson relatched the door and waited silently inside the stall until the other traveler completely left the restroom area. “I swear she was standing there for like seven seconds… I just had to stay in there until she was gone because I was going to pass away,” she joked.
Noise-canceling headphones and personal screens have transformed modern air travel into a private sensory bubble. However, they frequently lead to public blind spots.
When travelers operate in sensory isolation, routine environmental cues like cabin announcements, tap notifications, or verbal warnings from bathroom stalls are easily missed. For Olson, being on both sides of sensory distraction resulted in a surreal travel day.
