Woman Walks Into Trader Joe’s and Orders Mango Sticky Rice. The Quantity Made the Employee Widen His Eyes: ‘We Will See if It’s Worth It’

Mango sticky rice is a delicious treat. Hailing from Thailand, this dish features sweet mango paired with rice infused with rich coconut milk. In a TikTok video, @aiyannace (Aiyanna) shows her enthusiasm for mango sticky rice, joining many others who love this unique combination dish.
Before stepping into a Trader Joe’s to buy her food, Aiyanna mentioned that it was only five minutes until the store closed. As she entered the store, running, she mentioned she didn’t need a cart, then anxiously approached an employee to ask if they had mango sticky rice.
After receiving a thumbs-up from the employee, Aiyanna followed them to where the item was kept and, along the way, asked whether they had eaten it and whether they liked it. The person didn’t seem very confident in their verdict, prompting Aiyanna to say she didn’t want her mango sticky rice frozen and wasn’t particularly interested in it being warm.
Aiyanna eventually reached the freezer where the mango sticky rice was kept and asked another employee for 17 packs of it. Upon hearing the number, the employee widened his eyes, and Aiyanna clarified that she was joking and that she needed three packs of it.
“Pure fear in his eyes”
In the TikTok video, after securing the mango sticky rice, Aiyanna picked up some Dubai chocolate and guava juice. And then, as she proceeded to leave the premises of the outlet with her bag of goods, she mentioned that she got a “little bit distracted.” Listing the other items she purchased, Aiyanna said, “I only got three. I got chips and jelly beans and Dubai chocolate,” before saying, “We will see if this is worth it.”
Some people in the comments section of Aiyanna’s post brought attention to her interaction with the employee who gave her the mango sticky rice. One user wrote, “Pure fear in his eyes.” Another said, “17 is valid bcuz why the portion so small.”
A few others made similar observations with one user highlighting, “the way you ran up to that man just huffing and puffing like DO YOU HAVE THE MANGO STICKY RICE and he sprang into action… understood the assignment lololololol.” Another commented, saying, “Everybody sensing the emergency and springing into action to help.”
Although Aiyanna’s experience with the staff was positive, not all customers receive the same support. For example, two women visiting D.C. Brandy Melville in Georgetown had to wait an hour to get in, and once inside, they refused to process their items and even asked them to leave.
In a follow-up video, Aiyanna gave her verdict
In a video she uploaded to her account right after, Aiyanna mentioned that she wasn’t a huge fan of the mango sticky rice. While eating from the container, she said she really wanted to like it but couldn’t bring herself to enjoy it, especially because the mango was warm.
Since she didn’t want the food to go to waste, she purchased some ice from a nearby shop, covered her last mango sticky rice packet with it, and left it outside Guac Time. Talking to her audience, Aiyanna mentioned that anyone who wanted the food could take it from there.
You can’t help but feel a bit bad for Aiyanna. She was so excited to try the mango sticky rice, and it’s disappointing to see her spirits fall after she was happily bouncing around Trader Joe’s, eager to get the food item. Luckily, the situation didn’t get worse, as we’ve seen with Trader Joe’s before, but it was still a letdown.
