Chicago Man Did DoorDash to Buy His Fiancée’s Engagement Ring. After 89 Days, He Finally Had Enough
Bradley Cho believed that his fiancée deserves a $6,500 ring, so he did DoorDash to buy it for her.
Marriage is expensive, but so is the proposal leading up to it. The ring itself is often discussed by the bride’s friends and family, as well as onlookers on social media. Bradley Cho (@bradjcho) from Chicago initially started working for DoorDash to buy his fiancée, Julia, her ring. After 89 days of hard work, he finally saved enough money to buy a ring for the grand proposal.
The man explained in December 2025 that he bought a condo. It was a huge financial move, and Cho couldn’t afford the $6,500 engagement ring he planned to buy for her. He turned to DoorDash and documented his journey on social media. Cho said he started with nothing but said his girlfriend “deserved more” than his excuses.
“For the past eight months, I have been lying to my girlfriend. I told her I needed a ‘plus one’ for a networking event, but what she didn’t know was that this event was her proposal,” Cho said in his proposal video on TikTok. He said that throughout their relationship, Cho never answered why he thought his Julia was “the one” for him. Before meeting his girlfriend, Cho described himself as “unstable,” lacking in a sense of direction.
“I didn’t have any kind of idea about what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go, and who I wanted to be,” Cho stated. He thought he would be satisfied with earning a lot of money, retiring early, and travelling the world. Cho had this idea of becoming some sort of Marvel superhero, pondering the meaning of life throughout the day. He thought it was all life had to offer, until he met Julia.
She’s the why that made DoorDash worth it
He said Julia loved her dogs more than she loved herself, put everyone else before herself, and looked at the world with so much wonder. Cho felt excited to wake up, knowing he would talk to her. Their drives during the golden hour “felt more golden” with Julia by his side.
But life didn’t always look as beautiful as the sunset. Cho shared that when he met her dog, Sarang, he finally felt like he was joining her life. Unfortunately, the dog would later get sick. Because the surgery required $10,000, his girlfriend had no choice but to let her dog pass.
“I wanted to be there for you in your grief. I didn’t want to just take away your pain—I wanted to be there with you,” Cho said. He stayed, and while she mourned her dog, Cho learned to be present for his partner when she needed him most. Sometimes, being there for a partner is all they need through grief. It seems so simple, and yet, this Hinge match couldn’t even recall his date’s likes and dislikes.
“You were the one to show me what love is actually like—to finally see the art of life painted on the sky, to finally hear the music of life when the wind whistled, to finally smell the rain before it falls, to finally taste the salt of ocean air—and know I wasn’t alone,” Cho said of Julia. In grief, Cho realized that he wanted to be with Julia for the rest of their lives—to put her before himself.
“And the more we are together, the more it feels just right—that this is where I’m supposed to be,” Cho said. At the moment, Cho has yet to update whether Julia said yes. Nevertheless, she made his DoorDash adventures worth every delivery.
