Los Angeles Woman Locked Eyes With a Man in a Club. Months Later, He Finally Explained the Silence: ‘The Ball Was in Your Court.’
He told her he was interested in her through aura farming.
First impressions can mean everything, whether it’s for a job or for dating. Jezabelle (@notjezabelle) from Los Angeles, California, shared how an experience with a man made her stop dating entirely.
“For starters, men don’t cold approach anymore,” Jezabelle told TikTok in frustration. She continued, “What they do is aura farm, and they stare at you, and that’s it.” Then, she recalled a time she went to a club in Chicago with her friends. They were dancing and having fun, and then a friend of a friend entered the vicinity. Jezabelle said they “locked eyes” in that moment.
“He comes over, my friend introduces him,” she said. They shook hands once, and Jezabelle said he walked away after the brief introduction. She said they locked eyes a few more times, but she went home after. Essentially, it was an uneventful night—nothing like what this Iowa woman experienced while out with friends.
Jezabelle said she flew back to Los Angeles not long after that. She didn’t meet with the man again, but saw that he followed her on Instagram. He supposedly started liking her photos, but he didn’t message her. In her words, the man still hasn’t made a move on her—even though there might be some chemistry to be explored. That was until two weeks later, when Jezabelle said she finally received a message from the man.
Not all meet-cutes happen abruptly. Some stories are slow burns, but when Jezabelle expectantly opened the message, he apparently reached out to her about networking. She didn’t specify what he was trying to sell her on, but it was not a romantic or personal message.
The Wait for a Second Chance
Months later, Jezabelle said that the man finally decided to “shoot his shot.” Even then, Jezabelle was confused, because he only subtly complimented her. It was still something a friend could have easily said without any romantic implication.
Another month passed, and she gave her number to him. They started talking and getting closer. Jezabelle, throughout all of it, was still confused as to why he didn’t make a move earlier on. She decided to ask him what took him so long to make a move on her.
“The ball was in your court,” he supposedly told her. Jezabelle was shocked by his statement, as he had only been sending mixed signals from a distance. Even when they had met in the club, Jezabelle only described a short introduction and a bunch of eye contact.
“I let you know I was interested in you,” he added. The man explained that looking at her repeatedly was his way of expressing that he was interested. He further stated that Jezabelle could have approached him instead.
Jezabelle was floored by his explanation. She stomped her feet on TikTok, frustrated by her experience. She said, “Women are the ones who look at you and look away, and that’s their way of showing you that they’re interested. And you’re supposed to approach the woman.”
Although she said she was “pissed off” just by recalling the experience, Jezabelle said that it had happened a long time ago. At least her experience didn’t turn into a coffee shop breakup sitcom.
