Man Buys 50-Piece Popcorn Chicken From KFC. Then He Starts Counting Them. Then KFC Responds: ‘Anything Less Than 46 Is an Issue’

When ordering a meal or combo from a fast food chain, it can be easy to miss some menu items. In the rush, an employee might forget a packet of sauce, a side, or even a drink. But what happens if a fast food chain leaves out around 30% of a meal?

That’s what happened to Atticus (@darkandemomitskiboy), a content creator who said he received only 35 pieces of popcorn chicken in a KFC bucket. In a video that received more than 3.1 million views, he shamed the company for leaving out a substantial portion of his meal and requesting that he send them a “DM” to resolve the issue.

The KFC Popcorn Bucket Is Not 50 Pieces

Prior to examining the chicken, Atticus seemingly knew there was a problem with his order. He mentioned that the amount of chicken he received did not look like 50 pieces. He even ordered extra popcorn chicken out of an abundance of caution, worried that he wouldn’t receive 50 pieces.

However, he prefaced his audience by saying, “If they said 50, I’m expecting 50.  I don’t wanna be scammed. And if I do get scammed, I’m gonna make it everybody’s problem.”

Attircus took the time to individually count each piece of chicken on camera. He quickly counted all the way up to 10. Then he moved to 20, and eventually, he landed at 35, a number that meant he was missing 30% of his meal.

“And that’s why I bought extra … I don’t trust you guys. I don’t trust anybody ’cause this is what people do. They scam,” he said. “So if you were going to KFC and you were depending on 50, don’t depend on it because you can’t trust them. You think it’s funny, KFC? You think you did something? I don’t think it’s funny to scam your customers.”

Wait, how much does the popcorn chicken actually cost?

The price Atticus paid depends on what he actually ordered.

The popcorn chicken bucket’s cost varies from location to location. Online, some locations list the offering of about “50 pieces” for about $10.

Other menu items, such as KFC’s nuggets, cost $34.99 for 50 pieces. That inadvertently caused some confusion in the comment section, as Atticus said he ordered the “popcorn nuggets.”

“Nah that 50 pieces alone is expensive af I would be mad too tf,” one commenter said, while posting a screenshot of the nuggets.

“Bro paid a dollar per nugget,” another commenter claimed.

Regardless, commenters said that “anything less than 46 is an issue.” Each popcorn chicken morsel would cost .20 cents in a popcorn chicken bucket, which means Atticus was missing $3 worth of food. If he truly did order the nuggets, he would be missing around $10.50 of his meal.

Did KFC Respond?

In the comments section, KFC offered to chat with the content creator. It only added fuel to the fire.

“35 is definitelyyyy not 50,” a representative said. “Thank you for flagging this, and we sincerely apologize on our end. Could you send us a DM so we can make this up to you ASAP?”

Atticus responded to the comment, but it wasn’t to thank the company. Instead, he asked why they didn’t just message him to begin with.

“[Thank] you for apologizing, however I will not participate in your public spectacle,” he said. “If you actually cared you would have sent me a message.”

In another video, he pointed out an issue he found with KFC’s approach. Specifically, he said he didn’t like that KFC offered to only make it right for him. The company didn’t attempt to clarify how they’d ensure the same thing doesn’t happen to other customers.

“You have hundreds of people telling you [that] you did the same thing to them. You said you could make it right for me, so make it right for everybody,” Atticus said.

Since then, KFC still has not responded to Atticus’s original comment that he left on his video.
