Sesame Street Is Turning Pop Radio Inside Out With a New Parody Album, Starting With Cookie Monster Hijacking a Bruno Mars Chart-Topper

‘P’ is for Parody.

Sesame Street just dropped a major curveball on pop radio, and it’s the kind of chaos parents and kids will actually agree on. The beloved children’s show is releasing a full-blown parody album next month, and the first taste is Cookie Monster absolutely hijacking Bruno Mars’ chart-topper I Just Might to sing about his one true love – cookies. The new track, Take a Bite, is already out, and it’s exactly the kind of wholesome, sugar-fueled madness you’d expect from a blue monster who treats self-control like a myth.

According to PEOPLE, the album, Parody Party, drops July 26, and it’s packing seven tracks that flip recent hits into kid-friendly anthems. Cookie Monster’s Take a Bite is just the beginning. The music video for the song is a dead ringer for Mars’ original, complete with multiple Cookie Monsters jamming in a studio that looks like it was lifted straight from the pop star’s playbook. If you’ve ever wondered what Bruno Mars would sound like if he spent his childhood mainlining chocolate chips, this is your answer.

The lyrics are pure Cookie Monster energy: “Hey, Mr. Baker! Oooooh! / We can’t resist that buttery flavor! / If cookie tastes as good as it looks right now, me will take a bite, a big bite! / Me not going to wait, me gobble up entire plate, hey!” It’s impossible not to grin at the sheer enthusiasm.

Cookie Monster isn’t the only one getting in on the fun

The album also includes Got to Go, a potty-training anthem that repurposes Chappell Roan’s Hot to Go! into a song about recognizing when nature calls. Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Abby Cadabby team up for the track, which is equal parts educational and catchy. If you’ve ever struggled to get a toddler to the bathroom on time, this might just be the secret weapon you’ve been missing.

There’s also Where Is My Lovie?, a playful twist on RAYE’s Where Is My Husband! that turns the search for a missing toy into a heartwarming adventure with Abby, Elmo, and Cookie Monster. The album isn’t just new material, though. It’s also rounding up some of Sesame Street’s greatest parody hits from the past. Cookie Monster’s Me Want It, But Me Wait – a take on Icona Pop and Charli XCX’s I Love It – is all about resisting the urge to devour every cookie in sight.

Then there’s Share It Maybe, his spin on Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, which flips the script to focus on the joy of sharing. And let’s not forget Sort it all – Oscar the Grouch’s take on pop icon Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, a recycling anthem that turns the hit into a lesson on sustainability. If you’ve ever wanted to hear a grouch sing about trash with the same energy Swift brings to breakup anthems, this is your moment.

Sesame Street has always had a knack for turning pop culture into something educational

Parody Party is no exception. According to Billboard, the show’s senior vice president and head of marketing, Aaron Bisman, put it best: “Sesame Street has always been at the forefront of popular culture, using music as a powerful way to connect with each new generation. From iconic original songs to clever, catchy parodies, music has long helped us engage the adults in young children’s lives while bringing our educational mission to life in fresh, engaging ways.”

This album isn’t just a collection of songs – it’s a masterclass in how to make learning fun. Whether it’s teaching kids about sharing, potty training, or the importance of recycling, Sesame Street finds a way to weave those lessons into melodies that stick.

The timing of this album feels especially perfect. With pop music dominating the airwaves, it’s a smart move to meet kids where they already are – singing along to the same songs their parents love. And let’s be real, parents are going to get a kick out of hearing their favorite hits reimagined through the lens of Sesame Street.

There’s something inherently joyful about hearing a song you know and love transformed into something entirely new. This is especially true when it’s delivered by characters as iconic as Elmo and Cookie Monster.

Parody Party is available to pre-save

If the first single is any indication, the album is going to be a hit with kids and adults alike. There’s something magical about hearing a song you recognize and suddenly seeing it through the eyes of a child. It strips away the complexity and leaves behind pure joy. And really, isn’t that what Sesame Street has always been about?

Whether it’s teaching the alphabet, counting to ten, or explaining the importance of sharing, the show has a way of making everything feel a little brighter. This album is just the latest example of how Sesame Street continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. It’s a reminder that music is universal, and when you combine it with characters that have been beloved for generations, the result is something truly special.

So get ready to hit replay on Take a Bite, because once you hear Cookie Monster singing about cookies to the tune of a Bruno Mars hit, you’re not going to want to stop. And if you’re a parent, good luck getting it out of your head.
