Travel delays are frustrating enough. Getting stranded during a water crisis is another story. A [email protected] recently detailed her nightmare travel experience in a post with over 186,000 views. She claimed it all went downhill after a Frontier Airlines flight back home from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Charlotte, North Carolina, was canceled at the last minute.

According to the creator, she was preparing to check in for her flight. Then she happened to look at her email. That’s when she discovered a cancellation notice from Frontier.

She said she felt lucky she checked her inbox when she did. Otherwise, she would have headed to the airport without knowing her flight had been canceled.

The creator claimed no explanation was provided for the cancellation. She then had to reschedule her travel plans herself. However, there were no replacement flights available until the following day.

In the comments, many shared that this was standard Frontier practice.

“I learned my lesson!!! they are good for cancelling flights w no notification, only way you find out is by going to the airport and them telling it’s cancelled … awful,” exclaimed one user.

“I had to pay an 500 with American Airlines for a new flight. Literally frontier is the worst airline everrrrrrrr,” another added.

Then her experience worsened.

That unexpected delay created another problem.

The hotel reservation where she had been staying was only booked through that night.

How Did the Situation Become More Challenging?

According to the creator, hotels in the area were dealing with water issues.

The TikToker claimed that the hotel only had a handful of rooms with running water.

As a result, she ended up sharing a room with one bed, multiple adults, and her son while she waited for her rescheduled flight.

She also said guests had to use buckets of water to flush the toilets.

What started as a canceled flight quickly became a much bigger travel headache.

What Is Happening With The Water In San Juan?

The creator’s experience appears to be tied to a larger water crisis affecting parts of Puerto Rico.

According to NPR, the situation became serious enough that Puerto Rico’s governor activated the National Guard to help distribute drinking water. The impact has been felt across neighborhoods, businesses, hotels, and short-term rentals.

Associated Press reporting found that some residents have been forced to haul buckets of water to wash dishes, take showers, and flush toilets while waiting for service to return. Tourism officials also brought in additional water trucks to help serve hotels and visitors.

That makes the TikToker’s account of using buckets to flush toilets consistent with what many residents and visitors have reportedly experienced during the outage.

Has The Water Crisis Been Fixed?

The answer appears to be complicated.

Sources reported that repairs to the major pipeline crack had been completed. However, residents told the outlet that additional leaks were still being discovered elsewhere in San Juan. Some people had already been dealing with intermittent water service for weeks or even months before the most recent break occurred.

As a result, while repairs have been made to some parts of the system, water disruptions have continued in certain areas as crews work through other infrastructure problems.

@a.mulan20 Thank God I check my emails like I check my social media. Hopefully they don’t cancel the flight again tomorrow. Pray for the locals and small businesses in San Juan. #frontier #frontiercancelledflight #watershortage #sanjuan #amulan ♬ original sound – A Mulan

Why Are Travelers Relating To This Story?

Most travelers know that flight cancellations happen.

What caught viewers’ attention was the combination of problems. The creator’s trip was disrupted by a last-minute cancellation, a shortage of available flights, and a city-wide water crisis all at once.

An overnight delay is inconvenient. Spending that extra night sharing a hotel room and flushing toilets with a bucket is a travel experience few people expect when booking a vacation.
