After Tiktoker’s Pilates Mishap, Internet Offers Sage Advice

A Pilate mishap that led to a huge viral moment on TikTok

After being on the rather comedic end of a Pilates session mishap, a social media user has been receiving sage advice from commenters on her TikTok video.

While attending a Pilates session, apparently attempting to explore her “soft girl era,” TikTok user noureenmahrann was performing a stretch involving a resistance band held around the feet while she sat on the floor and leaned back.

As many people who have either been to the gym or watched videos related to it will know, this often leads to a hilarious snapback if you lose concentration, which is exactly what happened to noureenmahrann. The resistance band then struck her in the face, and all she and her friends could do was laugh about it. Thankfully, she was kind enough to upload the video of the incident, which duly went viral with over ten million views.

Advice from the masses

The relatable moment was met with some hilarious responses from the comments section, who, while expressing appreciation for anyone who was looking to better themselves through exercise, had a range of advice to offer on how to avoid such instances in the future.

“This would never happen in McDonald’s,” offered one user, while another chimed in that “a martini would never.” While not exactly helping set people up for the same goals as a Pilates session, it’s impossible to argue against the accuracy of both statements.

A user called Chris Evans (not that one) advised that it “could have been worse. Could’ve happened to me,” which was pretty much a universal vibe in the comments. Everyone who has been on the receiving end of one of these “why did I do that” moments in public will know that the sting to your pride can be almost as bad as the sting to your face.

With friends like these

The best part of all was the reaction of noureenmahrann’s friends, many of whom found themselves freeze-framed by commentators due to their relatable reactions to the snap. One of them clearly found it impossible to contain their laughter, while another adopted a look of sheer horror, seeming to instantly imagine themselves in that same situation.

One of the heaviest pieces of advice came from a user who simply declared, “That’s why we don’t try to improve ourselves,” tapping into the notion that if you just don’t wish for improved flexibility and muscle tone, then you won’t end up in an embarrassing public snafu. At least one user appreciated the public service announcement about just how dangerous Pilates can really be, exclaiming, “Amazing, I will never take this class. Thank you so much for posting this,” so it would seem that at least one person has been saved by the incident.

While noureenmahrann’s story was ultimately funny and a little glimpse into the kind of hilarity that can occur when we lose focus in the gym, the National Safety Council notes that over 400,000 emergency department visits take place each year because of gym and exercise-related injuries.

Free weights, treadmills, and, just like in this video, resistance bands make up the majority of those visits, and it’s honestly easy enough to end up with a nasty eye injury when dealing with resistance bands, so be careful on your next trip to the gym.
