After dining at a restaurant, there’s nothing like taking home leftovers as a special treat. Not only can you enjoy it for a couple of meals, but it also saves the hassle of cooking or ordering out anytime soon. Typically, a server will hand you a to-go box to put your food in upon request, and there you go, end of discussion.

So, what do you do if you keep having to flag down your server for this simple container? Do you just wait in hopes they’ll remember? Or do you do what Utah TikTok creator Lacy Silvestrini (@lacy.silvestrini) does and take matters into her own hands?

The ‘Solution’ To A Forgetful Server

For seven seconds, she films herself hobbling and bumbling in a parking lot at night. While laughing hysterically, the content creator balances an oval glass plate with a half-eaten sandwich, onion rings, and a ranch cup in one hand and the camera with the other. Then, she mumbles incoherently and flips the lens to unveil the white car she is headed to. In a nutshell, the entire clip paints Silvestrini’s point of view: “When I ask for a box 3 [times], and they don’t give me one.”

“Drunk night things,” she writes in the caption.

Viewers Sing Their Approval

Silvestrini’s video amassed 2.2 million views, garnering unanimous agreement from everyone in the comments section. Also, others would’ve done the same thing in her shoes.

“Honestly as a server, that’s fair game,” one viewer commented.

“I’ve been a server for over a decade and I applaud you. It’s all yours babes!” a second echoed.

A third concurred, “As a server for over 15 years; yep tis the unspoken rule.”

“Nah girl fr cause I gave them 3 chances and it’s my [expletive] plate now. I paid for the whole [expletive] plate,” a fourth remarked.

“When I ask for containers for the sauce and they don’t give it to me, guess this little cup [is coming with me then.] I tried,” a fifth stated.

“I would’ve done this sober girl THREE TIMES???” a sixth said.

Should You Do This?

There’s no doubt that servers work in a high-stress environment. Customers making all sorts of demands is overwhelming. Because of the constant pull in different directions, they may feel ‘weeded-out,’ therefore, certain requests may slip their minds. When a customer feels ignored, they may resort to desperate measures. What Silvestrini did is one of them.

However, Food & Wine warns against this because it’s considered theft. It’s clear as day that taking something that doesn’t belong to you is stealing. And the restaurant industry is no different. Whether it’s a fork, salt and pepper shakers, cups, or even a plate, the establishment can press charges regardless of intent. As the outlet describes it, “The food goes home with the customer either in their belly or in their to-go box and everything else stays at the restaurant.”
