In a video with over 1.3 million views, TikToker The Immigrant Wife (@theimmigrantwife) stands in an aisle at Goodwill. She ran into a woman who picked up a bright orange Louis Vuitton luxury handbag.

The TikToker, who frequently posts her Goodwill finds, asks the woman if she can film it to put on her page. However, the woman seems nervous to let the TikToker hold the bag, keeping a tight grip on the handle even as she stands outside of the frame.

She tries to turn the bag to show viewers, but the woman won’t loosen her hold on the bag.

On-screen text reads, “Asking a lady who hits the jackpot for Louis Vuitton Capucines bag to make a video about it but she doesn’t let go.” The caption continues, “Not a second haha, good finds of the day at Goodwill.”

Is it weird to film other shoppers’ finds at Goodwill?

In the comments, viewers debate whether the TikToker should have asked the woman to film the Louis Vuitton bag she found. Some say they don’t blame the woman for worrying that the TikToker wouldn’t give her the bag back.

“Taking a video of someone else’s find is weird though,” one remarks.

A second says, “Yeah. She’s an experienced thrifter. She said not today. Not this bag.”

“Good for her! Can’t trust anybody at the thrift,” another comments.

However, others say the shopper had no reason to be nervous.

“There is no hope for us if everyone thinks being scared is the way to be!” a commenter writes.

“Isn’t there a law with something like whoever has the item in possession gets it or at least that was a law before?” another asks.

Do thrifters really take each other’s finds?

According to the r/ThriftStoreHauls subreddit, some thrifters suggest that they have to be extra cautious when shopping to protect their picks. So, maybe the woman was smart to keep a death grip on the Louis Vuitton bag.

“I was trying on a dress one time and came out to show my friend and check it out in the big mirror. When I went back in to change, someone had stolen my jeans from the changing room! Like, the jeans I wore to the store,” one commenter shares. “I had to buy a pair of pants to be able to go home.”

Some thrifters share how they protect their items from cart thieves.

“You gotta check out immediately if you find something really special. Go put it in your car then continue shopping,” one writes on the subreddit.

Another suggests, “Next time, cover your treasure with a towel or sheet. Something boring. I worked at a gw bin store, and many of the regulars always had a sheet on their stuff– even while digging. Always cover your stuff.”

A third adds, “Never use a cart. Once you find something you want you need to hold on to it. Never let it go.”
