Over at Plex, the viewers are looking for The Devil Wears Prada, and they’re finding it. A movie that a lot of fans should have delivered Streep an Oscar is all over searches. More than 2x the people are looking for The Devil Wears Prada when compared with another crowd-pleaser in Mamma Mia.

Plex also noted that there was a 28% increase in searches for Streep’s movie after The Devil Wears Prada 2’s casting announcements. In addition, the teaser also spurned a 50% jump in interest. People are so hungry to see this sequel after years in the making. It will be interesting to see how the movie does at the box office this weekend.

A lot of people decry sequels and reboots, but the tickets are telling another story. Maybe there would be a groundswell around new offerings. However, the studios have access to data like this and are strategizing accordingly. It would be up to the people buying their seats at home to change that kind of thinking with their consumer behavior. It could happen!

First reactions to The Devil Wears Prada 2 seem to indicate longtime fans will really enjoy the follow-up. Our Rachel Leishman said, “THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2: Stanley Tucci made me cry TWICE. I loved it. No notes.”

Elsewhere Nicole’s Film Perspectives agreed that it hits an emotional chord. “The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a whirlwind of emotions but reins it in the most vulnerable of ways,” she said. “It’s striking, witty and hits close to home if you have an artistic itch. The quartet hits every note beautifully – Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci are magnificent.”

Everyone wasn’t so quick to praise all the elements of the narrative. Hoai-Tran Bui from Inverse thought the filmmakers leaned a bit too hard into nostalgia. On social media, she wrote, “THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is a little frictionless and high on its own supply of member berry juice, but tbh i was just happy to see my friends Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt together again”
