Woman goes to Walmart in a normal outfit. Then an older man comments the most vile thing to his son: ‘What an odd thing to say’

A woman went to Walmart in a comfy outfit. Then, she overheard a man who was much older than her make an inappropriate comment to his companion that stopped her dead in her tracks.
Kaleigh Marie, a regular TikTok content creator who posts occasional baking content, was having a regular day until she overheard a man tell his child something genuinely despicable. The worst part? He said it loudly without any caution, embarrassing her in the store and leading to her eventual post. Kaleigh made a TikTok about the encounter, which has over 1.3 million views. She added that those defending the man were part of the problem.
The thing he said in question? The man told his presumed son that Kaleigh Marie was “jailbait” and that he needed to be “careful” around her. There was no context or warning that would have even so much as partially explained the comment.
What does the term mean?
Multiple of Kaleigh Marie’s commenters had no idea what the term “jailbait” even meant. Viewers received a number of explanations, although some were still missing the term’s full context.
“Jailbait” is a term that refers to people under the age of 18 who an older person or figure considers “attractive.” Typically, weirdos use the term “jailbait” if having sexual relations with a person would lead to legal consequences. It’s not necessarily specific to one gender. Boys also get called “jailbait,” too, but it’s become a common, derogatory term for younger women.
“Jailbait” directly sexualizes minors. The keyword can even trigger safety warnings when searched online. Child sex abuse material is sometimes referred to as “jailbait” or “jailbait images.” On the internet, “jailbait” forums have been shut down due to their association with child sex abuse materials, and the term is considered a flag in general for concerning behavior.
Other commenters explained the term, saying, “it means she’s ‘tempting’ them to commit a crime against her and go to jail. When she’s literally just existing.”
Why would an older man say something like that?
Previously, The Mary Sue covered a similar situation where an older woman said something vile to a young lady who didn’t ask for or warrant a second opinion. Older individuals are sometimes more comfortable being harsh and rude in public spaces, as they lose inhibition over time. Plus, there are some traditional values and expectations that older demographics hold onto with age.
Kaleigh Marie noted he was significantly older than her, saying, “When I say old, I mean OLD too” in her video’s description. Viewers emphasized that it was an “odd thing to say,” and that the man was normalizing child sexual abuse by even verbalizing his inappropriate comment.
And as noted in The Mary Sue’s previous article, being older also isn’t an excuse to make predatory or misogynistic comments in public spaces. Older people still have a responsibility to adapt and change to certain environments, even as their brains change and the ways they used to interact with others become less expected. Research does conclude that there are biological reasons that explain why some people say inappropriate things, but it’s still important for responsible parties to correct and manage those situations.
@0kaleidoscope0 edit: anyone saying i made this up or defending this man, YOU are part of the problem. when i say old i mean OLD too #weird ♬ original sound – kaleigh marie
