Epstein enabler and convicted trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is asking for a pardon in return for an explosive bargaining chip
Ghislaine goes nuclear.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker and longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein, is reportedly making a significant play for her freedom, offering an explosive bargaining chip in return for a pardon or a reduction in her 20-year prison sentence. Maxwell, who was sentenced in 2021 for assisting, facilitating, and participating in Epstein’s horrific abuse of minor girls, has unleashed what one expert calls a “nuclear option” in her ongoing legal battle.
According to Radar Online, Maxwell is claiming in recent court papers that a group of 25 “untouchable” men made “secret settlements” with victims, strongly implying they could and should face prosecution. This move comes after she exhausted all her appeals to overturn her 2021 conviction, which saw her found guilty on multiple counts related to sex trafficking.
She filed a writ of habeas corpus back in December, a legal petition that aims to challenge the legality of her detention. This particular habeas petition, however, marks the first time she has directly implicated a wider circle of individuals, beyond the four co-conspirators of Epstein who were involved in recruiting victims.
This certainly sounds like a veiled threat to those who might be named
Maxwell alleges that “new evidence reveals that there were 25 men with which the [accuser’s] lawyers reached secret settlements – that could equally be considered as co-conspirators.” She points out that the government “could have indicted the 4 named co-conspirators, or any of the 25 men that settled secretly with the lawyers for the [accuser] complainants, but they didn’t.”
Private investigator Ed Opperman believes Maxwell’s carefully crafted legal maneuver is a clear message to Epstein’s wealthy and powerful friends. He suggests she might start naming names if her prison sentence isn’t overturned or commuted.
Opperman explicitly stated, “It’s an absolute negotiating chip – she wants a pardon, a reduction in sentence, a commutation.” He thinks she’s “throwing this out so that the people on that list will use their wealth, power and influence to get her out of prison to keep her quiet.” This isn’t just a legal filing; it feels like a strategic power play.
Maxwell has consistently maintained that the government “was looking for someone to indict” following Epstein’s mysterious death in 2019. He was awaiting trial for sex trafficking in a New York City jail when he died, and Maxwell has claimed she was made a patsy in the wake of his death.
It’s clear that Maxwell feels she was unfairly targeted
She has always positioned herself more as a scapegoat rather than a willing participant. However, her lack of remorse has been a consistent theme throughout her legal proceedings. The socialite was moved from a federal Florida prison to a lower-security Texas facility last summer, a transfer that occurred after she reportedly spoke with then-Deputy Attorney General, now interim Attorney General Todd Blanche.
While the Supreme Court rejected Maxwell’s appeal of her conviction in October, she isn’t giving up. Her pending legal petition from December asks for her 20-year sentence to be thrown out or amended, citing “substantial new evidence” that she supposedly didn’t receive a fair trial.
The idea of a pardon has been floated before. As per Forbes, Maxwell’s attorney David Oscar Markus, has repeatedly suggested Maxwell wants President Donald Trump to pardon her or commute her sentence. These comments were made as recently as mid-March. Trump, however, hasn’t given any indication he intends to pardon Maxwell, though he did say in October he would “look at” pardoning her after her Supreme Court appeal was rejected.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated more explicitly in February that while she hadn’t spoken to Trump “recently” about a Maxwell pardon, “Last time we did speak about it, he said it’s not something he’s considering or thinking about.” So, while the idea is out there, there’s no official movement on that front from the White House.
Epstein was known for rubbing shoulders with an array of elite power brokers
This list of Epstein’s connections famously included former Prince Andrew, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and ex-President Bill Clinton. All of these high-profile individuals have consistently denied any knowledge of Epstein’s incredibly sketchy and criminal behavior with girls and young women. Their names have been linked to the released Epstein files, but they have maintained their innocence regarding his sex crimes.
Opperman believes that Epstein’s “untouchable” pals are likely “sweating machine gun bullets” right now. This is because a federal subpoena has the power to override any nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) they might have orchestrated to silence victims. He explains that “the federal government could definitely prosecute these rich and powerful men, even if the victim signed an NDA, because the settlement can be considered an admission of guilt.”
This means those secret settlements, which Maxwell is now highlighting, could become a major vulnerability for those involved. It’s a truly intense situation, and Maxwell seems determined to use every lever she can to get out of her current predicament.
