‘He was tall, handsome—and had Meta glasses’: Austin woman gets hit on by man who calls her ‘thicker than a Snicker.’ Then she checks Instagram later

Most people don’t want to be an unknowing subject in a video for social media. Nowadays, we’re constantly looking over our shoulders in public. And amidst the digital age, content supersedes consent.

Recommended Videos

Over the years, this has manifested into a phenomenon. A BBC survey conducted in 2020 found that 52% of young people have experienced someone sharing a photo or video of them online without asking their permission. Just scrolling on social media, there are countless clips of people setting up their tripod in public to transform the space into their stage, using others as their background characters or filming a person’s bizarre outburst.

Ultimately, the more popular trend is to record making fun of random strangers to their face. All of these are in the name of boosting their online presence.

This Texas-based woman became an unwilling participant in a popular influencer’s video. Now, she’s warning others to steer clear of this person.

How Did This Happen?

The video features TikTok creator Christa Lopez (@misschristitaaa) as she recounts the incident.

“I wanted to come on here really quickly to tell you my story and what happened to me on Friday night,” she begins. “I went to The Domain with my sister and best friend. We went to try this new restaurant called Mexican Sugar.”

When she was about to enter the restaurant, a man approached her. “He was tall, handsome, and he had Meta glasses on. I didn’t really think of it at the time,” she says. “We had a quick conversation. He was complimenting me, saying that I was ‘thicker than a Snicker.’ I was laughing awkwardly and I was trying to hurry up.”

As her discomfort rose, his strangeness escalated. “So, he asked for my number. I didn’t give him my number. I gave him a fake number,” the content creator says. “And he kissed me on the hand.”

Unbeknownst to Lopez at the time, he was capturing the entire interaction through his glasses until later that evening.

The Video Posted Without Her Knowledge

“I get home, I get a message from somebody on Facebook and they let me know, ‘Hey. Somebody posted you on Instagram. You should take a look at it,” she recalls. “I looked at it and it was that guy. He posted me.”

However, she refused to sit there and take it. “I wrote to him, ‘Hey can you take that video down? I felt really uncomfortable. It’s not OK to post me without me not knowing,’” she recalls. “It was very embarrassing for me, even though I didn’t say anything or do anything wrong.”

As a result, the content creator is warning viewers in the Austin, Texas, area of this man and his schtick.

“Please stay away from this guy because he will record you and post you without your consent,” she says. “That’s what his content is mainly about. It’s approaching women and basically making you look dumb.”

Before wrapping up, Lopez reiterates to over 138,000 viewers, “Just stay away from this man. His name is Julian. I don’t know his last name.”

Viewers React To Her Story

In the comments section, many were well-versed about this notorious creator.

“Not this guy again,” one viewer commented.

“Omg! Wait someone else posted about this. Same story in atx area,” a second stated.

“I saw someone else make a video about something similar!! Happened [to her] at HEB,” a third said.

Furthermore, a few victims of his antics entered the chat.

“Gurllllll he got me too,” one commenter shared.

“That same guy also posted my friend even though she asked him if he was recording and he told her he wasn’t!! She texted him multiple times asking him to take the video down and he never did,” a second revealed.

So, Who Is Julian?

Further investigation in Lopez’s comments section unraveled who the mysterious creator is. Julian Gulchuk is a Texas-based influencer whose content is geared toward ‘teaching men to be confident’ and ‘improving dating life,’ according to his social media bios. However, his approach can be interpreted vastly differently. Through POV style clips, it features him stopping women in their tracks by attempting to ‘rizz’ them by flirting, complimenting, and making sexual remarks.

What Does The Law Say About Posting Videos Of People Without Their Knowledge?

It can be illegal, depending on the location. Generally, it isn’t whether the video is recorded in a public setting; individuals don’t have a reasonable expectation of privacy, Rosier Law Group states. On the other hand, private areas, such as bathrooms, homes, or dressing rooms, are another ballpark. Since there’s an expectation of privacy, it can result in a violation of legal rights. Moreover, posting content that is harmful to a person, such as Invading Privacy, Defamation, Right of Publicity, can be grounds for a lawsuit, per Novins York Jacobus & Dooley
