‘I can see where this is headed’: Trump calls his appointed Supreme Court officials ‘stupid’ over disagreement on policies

This week, United States President Donald Trump has given his critics plenty of reasons to nitpick his behavior. Whether he’s discussing the US’s war in Iran or claiming that the impact on rising gas prices is less important than the US’s achievements in Iran, he consistently speaks on issues that upset many.
Just a day ago, Trump said that it was not the federal government’s responsibility to fund “scams” like Medicare, Medicaid, and daycare, which sparked debates online because many wondered what that even meant. Now, he’s again making headlines for something he said during the same event: his address to the nation on April 2, 2026. So, what exactly did he say? Not much. He mainly expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court’s failure to function under his jurisdiction and questioned why it operates independently. Blimey! Not him questioning the Supreme Court’s independent decision-making skills!!
Donald Trump is mad over his appointed Supreme Court Justices
Donald Trump believes that if he played a role in someone holding a certain position within the US government or elsewhere, they owe him something. At least, that’s what he says in a recently circulating video. In a clip from his Thursday briefing, Trump can be seen expressing disappointment that the Republican-leaning Justices he helped appoint to the Supreme Court are not ruling in his favor or giving him preferential treatment.
Speaking on the matter, Trump said, “Republicans, judges, and justices, they always want to show that they’re independent. I can I don’t care if Trump appointed me. I don’t care if it doesn’t make any difference to me. I’m voting against him because they want to show their independence. You know, stupid people.” Trump also compared the Republican-leaning Supreme Court Justices to those of Democrat-leaning ones and said that the latter are far more united in their decisions when it comes to supporting the party they represent.
The reason for Trump’s anger toward the Supreme Court Justices is personal
In January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled “Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship.” This order aims to end the automatic granting of U.S. citizenship to children born on American soil if their mother was not an American citizen or was unlawfully present in the U.S., and if the father was not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (LPR) at the time of the child’s birth. It also applies when the mother’s presence was lawful but temporary, such as visiting under the Visa Waiver Program or on a student, work, or tourist visa, and the father was not a U.S. citizen or LPR.
Trump’s efforts to enforce this executive order have faced strong criticism, and based on recent developments, it looks like he is about to lose his case, with the Supreme Court prepared to rule against him. Therefore, in light of these events, Trump is openly expressing his disappointment with the Supreme Court Justices, especially those he helped appoint to their current positions.
