‘You guys voted for him’: Donald Trump avoids question on rising gas prices, instead condemns ‘madman’ Ali Khamenei

Donald Trump is in no mood to show empathy toward people suffering from rising gas prices due to the United States’ involvement in Iran; instead, he is more focused on giving a loose timeline for when things might return to normal.

A video of Donald Trump is currently going viral on social media, including platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where he responds to a journalist’s question about the sharp rise in gas prices in America, which is a direct result of the US’s and Trump’s war efforts in Iran. Addressing the issue, or perhaps tactically deflecting from it, Trump essentially said that an increase in gas prices was a small price for Americans to pay in exchange for the assurance that Iran would not attack the United States with a nuclear weapon in “six months” due to the U.S.’s efforts in Iran.

Donald Trump says the glass is half full when it is half empty

It seemed like Donald Trump came prepared for his conference on March 31, 2026. In a moment that gained popularity online, and a significant departure from his usual public decorum, Trump can be seen repeatedly rebutting the claims made by a reporter, although he wasn’t really addressing the questions as they were being asked (something no one expects him to do, perhaps).

When asked to comment on the difficulties people faced due to gas prices rising to $4 because of the US’s war in Iran, Trump, while acknowledging the problem, chose to justify his actions by completely ignoring the suffering of those having to spend large amounts of money on gas. He said, “4 dollars, yeah, and we have a country that’s not going to be throwing a nuclear weapon at us in six months.” When the journalist further mentioned the hardships of Americans caused by the price hike, trying to evoke empathy, Trump responded, “They are… feeling a lot safer.”

Donald Trump claims gas prices will come ‘tumbling down’ in the future

During the same interaction, previously mentioned, Donald Trump was also asked about his potential plan to lower gas prices. Answering the question, Trump said that all he had to do to decrease them was “leave” Iran, and the prices would come “tumbling down.”

He also briefly discussed stock prices rising, but then shifted to talk about how the US had to take a detour in Iran because it had “madman” Ali Khamenei as its Supreme Leader. His exact words were, “Stock prices were up today, almost to a record, because they know two things. Number one, we have a safe country. We had to take a little detour because we had a madman named Khamenei, who sadly, is no longer with us.”
