New York’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is a Little Depressed in New Trailer

Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a lot to work through with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Like the fact that no one remembers who he is. And the new trailer really shows how much he’s going through it.
Peter Parker erased himself from the memories of everyone who knew him at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) went to college and Peter was left behind completely alone. He seemed hopeful and a new era of Spider-Man was beginning. But the trailer for Brand New Day paints a different story for Peter.
As a fan of depressed Peter Parker, I’m very into what Destin Daniel Cretton is doing with Holland’s Peter in this film. Mostly because he is back in New York and Peter needs help from some of our favorite heroes like Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal). Both featured in the trailer.
Peter is changing, going through another life cycle of a spider. Meaning his powers aren’t necessarily working the same way they used to and he’s going to have to change to survive. And maybe even meet other spider-powered people? Because who caught him when he was falling outside of his apartment window!!!
Spider-Man is evolving like a Pokémon
It is fun to see Peter coming into his powers one way or another. For the first few movies, we saw him figure out what it meant to be Spider-Man, including losing his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) in the process. Now, he has the hero stuff down but he’s not really being the person he needs to be for Peter Parker.
That is my favorite kind of Spider-Man story. Yes, I love when Peter is at his best, doing what he does as a superhero, but watching him struggle to balance his personal life with his hero stuff is thrilling to me. He’s not good at it often and it makes him more human to me. With Brand New Day, that seems to be a lot of what Peter struggles with. Both physically and mentally.
The film is set to release this coming July and will put Tom Holland back behind the mask as the first Spider-Man franchise to actually get more than three films. So it is an incredibly exciting time for fans of Peter Parker. I just hope they stop torturing my poor boy soon!
