If you’ve been paying any attention to the growing attention around the ‘Gay Hockey Show’, you’ve noticed fans have been going a little stir crazy in their love for the series. Heated Rivalry’s beloved actors had to step in and tell everyone to cool their jets! Arnaud and Williams were joined by Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova and creator Jacob Tierney in their quest to get people to act normal for just one second when it comes to their co-workers. On social media, they laid it out plain.

Williams and Arnaud, in particular, did a great job with this. They both shared stories that said, “Don’t call yourself a fan if you share racist/homophobic/biphobic/misogynistic/ageist/ableist/parasocial/bigoted comments of any kind. None of us need your hateful ‘love.’ We all respect and support and love each other and are on the same side. If you can’t accept that GTFOH.”

That seems about as cut and dry as you can possibly get. However, it has to be said that things must really be at a boiling point with this burgeoning fandom. All the stars uniting like this means a line has been crossed. Heated Rivalry has become one of the biggest pop culture flashpoints of the last few years. Folks really love these characters. The fans are way too invested in the actors that portray them on screen. This really is how fandom functions in 2026, but people have to get a grip. We don’t know these folks, and we shouldn’t be trying to police their behaviors for playing our favorite characters on a television show.

Heated Rivalry fandom has a PROBLEM

If you’re looking for a flashpoint with respect to how out of control the Heated Rivalry fandom has gotten, take your pick. Hudson Williams has encountered a ton of anti Asian racism online among the fan base. Despite being a massive fan-favorite in almost every corner of the Internet.. Some strange folks have also taken aim at Arnaud for having the audacity to possibly be in a relationship with a younger man? And, it couldn’t be queer fandom subculture without someone throwing the word queerbaiting at someone without any understanding of how that actually functions when we’re talking about real people!

Their costar had to windmill what Williams and Arnaud posted online. It really is sad because Heated Rivalry is something that has brought a lot of the Internet together. But, in the ‘Big ‘26, we can’t have anything nice. So, someone has to come along and take it too far and snatch the joy away from the rest of us. Check out what she had to say right here:

“pls don’t make a show that’s about love be hateful online. So much love was poured into this project and we all genuinely have so much respect for everyone involved in making this. We’re not characters and neither are our real friends, partners, family and making up false narratives about us isn’t ‘love.’” Kharlamova added, “So much good has come from this show so let’s keep that going!! Share the love, the art, the dance parties, the friends made, the positivity!!”
