A Florida woman arrived at a hair appointment 20 minutes early to avoid paying any late fees. Then she ended up walking out halfway through due to just how poorly the appointment went.

TikToker Peanut (@xoxobl4ckbarbi3) went to Caramel County, a hair salon in Tampa, Florida, for an appointment. Beforehand, she noticed that her hairstylist was “rude,” refusing to look at photos of what she wanted prior to the appointment. Despite arriving early, Peanut ended up waiting 30-40 minutes to actually get into the chair for her hair styling. From there, she ended up sitting until noon, a complication as she had work at three p.m. that day.

Peanut alleged that she was left under a hair dryer for around an hour during her appointment, even though her hair was dry. Peanut alleged that the stylist left to get alcohol. She also alleged that she came back with it during the appointment. When the hairstylist began applying tracks to her hair, she asked, “Is there a problem?” The question ended up escalating the situation and leading to Peanut leaving altogether.

Her post discussing the situation has garnered 12 million views, with Caramel County even responding to the allegations in an Instagram story that has since expired.

Peanut describes the start of her experience

Peanut, a teenage client using an alias on social media, went to Caramel County for a hair appointment before a shift at work. She booked her appointment for 10:40 a.m. and arrived 20 minutes early to ensure that she wouldn’t incur any fees with the booking.

She immediately noticed that the salon wasn’t what she expected. Instead of a standard salon, she stepped into a barbershop full of men. This made her uncomfortable. Confused, she went along with the appointment anyway.

She approached her hairstylist and asked if it was possible to start early, but the stylist was busy with another patron. So, she came back at 10:41 a.m. to start her appointment. Surprisingly, though, her stylist was still working with another client in the back of the shop and allegedly was rude to her regarding the booking.

According to her, it took until 11:15 a.m. to get into the chair. Once she got there and was getting braids, she noticed her hairstylist was extremely heavy-handed. That’s when they moved into the actual treatment—Peanut was going in for glue tracks or glue-in hair extensions, and the hairstylist was getting ready to get started.

“ She finally [expletive] braided me down and put this, this, this sorry [expletive] wig cap on me. Ain’t even cut it off all the way lazy as [expletive]… Bro, she sent me under the dry for an hour and I have work at three o’clock, bro,” she described. “I booked for 10 o’clock, obviously for a[n] [expletive] reason.”

Peanut alleged that the hairstylist put her under a dryer for an hour while she left the shop. During this time, Peanut texted her to ask whether she was coming back.

The hairstylist disappears mid-appointment—then comes back

Peanut felt tortured by the hair appointment at this point, as she was overheating under the dryer. She texted the hairstylist to ask when she was coming back and seriously contemplated whether she would.

She even asked whether she could get out. The hairstylist allegedly responded “no” and did not let her move from the chair. Then, the stylist finally returned. She started the process of gluing the tracks in, but asked a fateful question: “Is there a problem?”

It infuriated Peanut to hear that, especially because her stylist left with zero warning to go do something else while she sat in the chair. At this point, she knew that she might be late to work if she continued the treatment. But, Peanut said no and indicated she wanted the treatment done.

The stylist continued, asking whether she just wanted to wash out the glue that was in her hair. That’s when Peanut snapped and ended the appointment.

“ So I’m just like, ‘you know what, just take the tracks out. I’m just gonna go because clearly you, you let me book just so you could take my $25,’” Peanut said.

She walked out of the appointment, losing her deposit in the process.

Other allegations

Toward the end of her video, Peanut made more serious allegations about the hairstylist’s behavior during the appointment. For one, she mentioned that the hairstylist allegedly went to get liquor while she was in the chair.

“ When she came back in, she had like a bottle of liquor in her hand after I’ve been sitting under the dryer for like an hour,” Peanut added. “Like, what is wrong with you? You’re so weird. You’re unprofessional. You’re a grown [expletive] lady and I’m a teenager.”

She also accused the stylist of being a penny pincher and being generally unprofessional in her communication with Peanut, especially considering the fact that she is a teenager.

The hairstylist responds

In a now-expired Instagram story, the stylist responded and offered her perspective on the situation.

“I am always kind to my clients and make sure they feel comfortable at all times,” she said. “I’ve never had a bad review about anything of this nature ever. But if someone comes to receive a service from me and continues to be disrespectful sitting in my chair, getting their hair done, talking negatively about me, in text messages and calling me names while knowing I can see it, I will politely ask you to get up and leave and I will send your money back. I am not obligated to do anyone’s hair.”

According to the stylist, she asked Peanut whether she wanted to finish taking the rest down. Peanut said no and walked out of the service. She also stated that she never cursed, raised her voice, or did anything out of the ordinary.

“And this story about me going to the liquor store? That’s completely false,” she said. “I went to the hair store because I was actively doing hair and realized I was running low on supplies. [expletive] happens. She wasn’t even in my chair when I stepped out.”

The stylist receives death threats

Her business has received a multitude of threats, something that she mentioned very early in her now-removed Instagram story. According to her, TikTok viewers accused the stylist of putting Peanut, a teenage client, in harm’s way based on the service. For that reason, she had received a number of concerning messages that contained a “false narrative.”

“People can say whatever they want about me, but I know for a fact I did not put that child in harm’s way,”  she added. “STOP WITH THE DEATH THREATS!! I can refuse service at any given time. There are two sides to every story, but some of you are running with the first thing you hear.”

How did the story conclude?

Peanut updated her audience, adding that she did her own hair at home in a new post. She did not post any of the messages with the stylist or additional communication that she may have had with the shop.

The stylist had continued posting on her business account. She turned comments off for recent Instagram posts discussing her March booking availability. Some commenters shared that they canceled appointments with Caramel County once they watched Peanut’s original video. Others shared the stylist’s story and said there were two sides to the situation.
