Colin Jost believes that the US attacking Iran is a bad idea, and Donald Trump, from 2011, agrees

Saturday Night Live has never shied away from delving into politics, especially when it comes to bashing Donald Trump. In fact, since last year, after Trump became president of the United States for a second term, the late-night live sketch comedy variety show has been more proactive than ever in critiquing him and his party.

One of the most popular segments on Saturday Night Live is Weekend Update, hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost. For those unfamiliar with the segment’s format, Che and Jost basically present the week’s developments in a parodied format. For this week, one of the prominent topics of discussion was the US and Israel joining forces and waging a war on Iran, leading to the death of its supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. In the context of this event, Colin Jost highlighted the hypocrisy of Donald Trump by playing a video of him from 2011. To learn what it was about, continue reading.

It’s Trump’s words against Trump when it comes to Iran

Although Donald Trump had been threatening to attack Iran for some time, no one was certain that he would actually do it. But on February 28, 2026, suddenly, news channels began reporting that the US and Israel had formed an alliance and attacked Iran. Not only that, but they had also killed the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, which caused mixed reactions among Americans and others around the world.

As previously mentioned, the Weekend Update segment of the recent episode of Saturday Night Live addressed this event. In a video from the section that is going viral on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), host Colin Jost is seen expressing uncertainty over the US’s decisions in Iran, while adding that he wasn’t an expert in the field. He then says that it was better to hear from someone who knew the matter to express their views. The next thing, he pulls up a video of Donald Trump from November 16, 2011, where he is dissing then-president, Barack Obama and alleging that he was leading the US into war with Iran because he did not possess the “ability to negotiate,” further adding that he is “weak” and “ineffective.”

Trump critics were right about Iran counterattacking the United States

After it was announced that Ali Khamenei had been killed following the US and Israel’s joint efforts, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to verify the news. In a post he made on March 1, 2026, Trump wrote, “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead. This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS.”

In a different post the same day on the platform, Donald Trump hinted at the Americans’ worst fears coming true by highlighting that Iran had notified that “they are going to hit” America very hard, “harder than they have ever hit before.” Reacting to that warning, Trump wrote, “THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE!”
