What Did She Find?

In a video that has garnered over 247,700 views, TikToker @marilee753 explains why she decided to turn around and head back to Rural King shortly after buying a bag of dog food.

“I am about to lose my Country Girl card and I don’t care,” she says while filming the road ahead from inside her car. “I am on my way back to Rural King to return a bag of dog food because there’s something alive in it.”

According to Marilee, she first noticed something was wrong shortly after arriving home with the item.

“I got home, and my cats almost immediately jumped into the back of the truck and were trying to figure out this bag,” she says.

She explains that once she brought the bag inside, she figured out why the cats reacted that way.

“I got it in the house and the cats are trying to come in my house, and the bag started moving,” she says.

At that point, she says she decided she wasn’t going to investigate further on her own. “Nope. I am noping out of that,” she says. “I don’t know what’s in there.”

While she describes herself as someone who usually isn’t bothered by animals, she says certain possibilities were enough to make her cautious.

“Most things don’t bother me,” she says. “I don’t do mice, rats, or snakes.”

She says she didn’t want to risk opening the bag outside in case whatever was inside managed to escape into her home.

“I can’t take the chance that my cats won’t catch it if I open the bag outside and it gets in my house,” she says. “Nope nope nope.”

Commenters Really Want to Know

In the comments section, viewers demanded she tell them what the store ended up finding inside.

“No one wants to see the drive back to store!” one commenter exclaimed. “We need to see what’s in the bag ma’am!!!!”

“Inquiring minds NEED to know!!!,” another wrote.

“Well, what happened?” a third commenter asked. She responded, writing, “I got back to Rural King without anything escaping the bag when I told him why I was returning it he said valid reason here you go!”

What Could It Have Been?

Marilee’s assumption that there may have been a rodent inside the dog food bag may well have been correct. Many dog owners report finding either live or dead rodents in their dog food.

Customers have also reported finding things like metal, plastic, insects, blades, mold, and more, according to a list compiled by Truth About Pet Food.

If an owner finds something suspicious, the site recommends reporting the issue to the Food and Drug Administration and relevant state authorities, for which it provides an extensive list of contacts.

If a pet has consumed something that may have been contaminated, Truth About Pet Food recommends saving the packaging and any remaining food and taking the pet to a veterinarian for a checkup, among other steps.
