A couple calls an HVAC technician fix their heater before a winter storm. The man creates a clever fib to get it fixed faster but doesn’t tell his fiancée, creating an awkward situation when the worker asks her if she’s having a “boy or a girl.”

In a video with over 2 million views, TikToker Texassmartini (@mstexassmartini) whispers to her fiancé, “Tim, why did you tell him I was pregnant?”

On-screen text explains further, “When your fiancé tells the HVAC guy you’re pregnant so he’ll fix the heater before the big freeze.”

He responds, “So that it was a bigger deal.”

While the lie wouldn’t have been obvious, the TikToker says she didn’t know her fiancé said that. As the HVAC tech works in the home, she continues to smoke her e-cigarette unknowingly.

“He probably thinks I’m disgusting,” she jokes. Her husband responds, “Probably.”

The caption reads, “Being asked ‘are you guys having a boy or girl?’ mid rip is INSANE.”

How do viewers think the HVAC tech reacted?

In the comments, viewers speculate what the HVAC tech was thinking when he spotted her smoking after learning about the pregnancy.

“The HVAC guy: I mean… okay. Lemme just get back to work and mind my damn business,” one writes.

“He’s going to call Children’s Services right after,” another suggests.

Other HVAC workers say the situation wouldn’t have shocked them, since customers make up fibs to get quicker service frequently.

“I’m an hvac guy. Fifty percent of people who call me have a story; pregnant, sick, old cat, they’re a virgo, etc. We really don’t care,” a commenter suggests.

“As someone who works with HVAC techs….I promise he didn’t think anything of it,” a second assures the TikToker.

Another writes, “Lemme tell yall as my bf is an hvac guy he minds his business and then comes home and tells me everything.”

Is it safe to smoke during pregnancy?

While the TikToker wasn’t actually smoking while pregnant, viewers point out that the HVAC tech could have been alarmed by the potentially dangerous activity.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), smoking while pregnant may be linked to low birth weight, complications, or birth defects.

However, some doctors may not suggest quitting cold turkey for pregnant people who are long-time smokers. UMass Memorial Health, a hospital system, notes that some expecting parents may work with their doctors to create a plan to slowly taper off of smoking rather than quitting cold turkey. This could reduce stress on the pregnant person as they work to stop smoking.

Some commenters point out that some expecting parents may also switch over to a non-nicotine device during this process.

“To be fair it could have been zero nicotine, how would he know lmao,” a viewer suggests.
