Beloved ‘Home Alone’ Actress Passes Away at 71

Everyone’s mom during the holidays, Catherine O’Hara, has sadly passed away at the age of 71. The Home Alone and The Studio star’s death was confirmed by Variety by her manager. Details surrounding her death are still being released.
O’Hara has been a stable for decades with her work. From Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice movies to her work on Schitt’s Creek, O’Hara was a comedy legend. Her work with Christopher Guest in his mockumentary movies is some of the most iconic of the genre and it has led to her being a perfect example of how to do that style of comedy.
Every Christmas we all scream “Kevin” as she did in Home Alone, we quote Moira Rose every award season for her love of it, and there are countless other moments throughout all of film and television that we can connect back to O’Hara. I truly do not use the word “legend” lightly.
Variety is reporting that O’Hara passed away on January 30 after suffering from a brief illness. No other details have been released.
The best kind of actress
Stars like O’Hara often are beloved because you know there is going to be something iconic in their performance. But more than that, she has given us characters to cling to and love throughout the years. So much of her work has brought joy to audiences and has been a comfort to us.
Yes, she’s funny. We all know this. But she is also someone who can adapt to the project and the genre she’s working with and give fans something new each time. Watching her and Eugene Levy play opposite each other was always a treat and there are truly so many movies and shows that I can list that show the staying power and range that O’Hara had.
Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.
