‘They are doing just the opposite’: Representative Jasmine Crockett hits at Donald Trump, accuses of taking no steps to make ‘America Great Again’
United States Representative Jasmine Crockett has never shied away from criticising Donald Trump or her Republican colleagues. On more than one occasion, she has called both out for their reckless exploitation of power at the cost of others around them. Crockett has faced relentless backlash from the opposition for her strong stance; however, she has never succumbed to external pressure and continued to push through for what she believes is right.
Jasmine Crockett is doing what she does best: calling Donald Trump and his dedicated Republicans out for their malpractices. During a recent press interaction, Crockett, while talking about the Trump administration, let it all rip, calling whatever was happening under it “wrong.” She spoke at length about the immigrant crackdown measures happening at Trump’s disposal, mentioning how it was an attack on individual rights, and noting that more than 50 per cent of the people who were detained presently weren’t prisoners but alleged undocumented immigrants who have been held in cells after the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted raids throughout the country to identify them. Crockett mentioned that all of this happened despite Trump promising potential voters of ridding America of crime during the 2024 elections.
She said:
I know someone promised that they would make America great. I am telling you that they are doing just the opposite. I am telling you that we are a land of immigrants. It is time to do immigration right. It is time to make sure that we live up to the promise of this country. The idea that someone ran and said, that I will get rid of the bad guys yet, we know, more than 50 per cent of the people that are currently being detained in custody have no criminal records at all, 0, Nada.”
Crockett continued by questioning Donald Trump and his administration about their decision to take “those people” (referring to the detained immigrants) out of their communities, noting that they are “neighbours” and “friends” of the American people. She also emphasised that the immigrants being targeted under the current administration “contribute to the fabric” of the country, adding that “they are what makes this country great.” She criticised ICE, referring to them as “thuggish” and individuals who are “spitting” on the American constitution. She concluded her statement by saying, “This isn’t right or left for us. This is right or wrong. And I am telling you right now, this administration is wrong.”
