‘He knows MAGAts can’t get into college’: Trump is defending foreign students but spent his whole term fighting immigrants
The MAGAs aren’t too excited over the news of Chinese students being allowed to pursue education in the United States, and they are ensuring that Donald Trump knows that.
In a recent interview, Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham confronted Donald Trump about the increasing frustration among the MAGA base concerning his decision to reverse his previous stance against allowing Chinese individuals to seek education in the U.S. She emphasised that Chinese students could occupy spots that might have otherwise gone to American students, while noting that schools were profiting from Chinese funding. Ingraham questioned Trump on how his decision could be considered “pro-maga.”
Trump replied by stating that if he were to limit the number of Chinese students in U.S. schools to satisfy some people, it would likely result in many colleges going “out of business.” He highlighted that having “outside countries” present in the U.S. is advantageous. Ingraham then suggested that the Chinese are not the same as the French, hinting that the latter are superior. Trump expressed surprise over Ingraham’s comments and clarified that he wasn’t certain if the French were indeed better than the Chinese.
The back-and-forth interaction between Laura Ingraham and Donald Trump has drawn the attention of the chronically online, leading to elaborate discussions. One individual on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:
“He knows MAGAts can’t get into college, he also said HBCUs would close without Chinese students…..I honestly did not know HBCUs were being propped up by Chinese students.”
Another one remarked:
“Trump just admitted that his version of “MAGA” means flooding U.S. universities with foreign tuition dollars because he believes half of America’s colleges would collapse without them, and that American students aren’t the priority. Saying “I know better than anybody else what MAGA wants” means that MAGA, as a movement is whatever pops into his head in the moment. It’s never been about America First, only Trump First.”
Many others shared similar views as they criticised Trump. In case anyone has forgotten, this is the same dude who has been fighting against the immigrant community in the United States since the start of his second term as President. This is also the same person who has been involved in a trade war with China since the beginning of this year and has been quite vocal about his disdain for the country and its values.
