‘Spaceballs 2’ releases its first image in a hilarious deep cut way

the cast of spaceballs 2

Fans of Spaceballs were excited when news broke that a sequel is on the way. The famous Star Wars parody has remained a classic in its 38 years and now we’re getting a whole new story! And would it be Spaceballs if it wasn’t an insane reference?

The first image of the table read for the new cast was released and features the new and returning cast all sitting together. Starring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Lewis Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, George Wyner, Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer and Anthony Carrigan, it is an exciting line-up of performers all working together. Which, of course, includes Lewis Pullman playing Lone Starr’s (Bill Pullman) son.

The image in question though isn’t just a great cast all sitting together and preparing to read their script. It is a reference to a deep cut Star Wars image that has many online already excited about the promise of Spaceballs 2.

The original image features Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, and Mark Hamill all sitting with the new cast of the sequel trilogy for The Force Awakens. So…you know, the same kind of deal happening here with the sequel. Which, when you think about it, is perfect for the lore and vibes of the original Spaceballs.

All of this is just fun. Part of the joy of the original film is that we get to see a comedic take on something as large as Star Wars. It didn’t take itself seriously and that earned the film lifelong fans. So if they are already nodding to the original film’s pokes at Star Wars, this is going to be a sequel worth waiting for.

And hey, when you think about it, they have two trilogies, television shows, spin-off movies, and more to comment on this time around so we’re really going to be in for it.
