Blizzard Community Manager Says Diablo III is Coming to Consoles

Recommended Videos

A community manager from Blizzard has stated via Twitter that the impending and much anticipated Diablo III will be coming to a console near you. The project will apparently be helmed by developer Josh Mosqueira. The news comes as anticipation is mounting for the PC version of the game, and is sure to turn some heads. After all, how are you supposed to click a million billion times on a controller instead of a mouse? It just doesn’t make sense!

Careful readers will remember Bashiok (aka Micah Whiple) as the community manager that kiboshed the rumors of a Feburary February release date for the long-awaited sequel. He’s clearly a man in the know, and doesn’t seem like the type that would throw around information inaccurately.

In their report, Ars Technica says that the aforementoned Josh Mosqueira certainly has the pedigree for such a project like this:

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mosqueira has been working as a lead game designer at Blizzard since last May, and prior to that worked on the unreleased Far Cry 3 at Ubisoft and served as a lead designer on games like Company of Heroes and Homeworld 2 at Relic.

Making the statement even more tantalizing is the fact that Blizzard has already said flat out that they are exploring the possibility of bringing Diablo III to consoles. Way back in November, the game’s lead designer Jay Wilson is quoted as telling Game Informer:

“People don’t believe us when we say we’re going to make a console game – flat out. I understand why they don’t believe us, because we’ve tried this before. We’ve also never invested in it to the degree that we are doing now, and we’ve never had a product we felt was appropriate for it.”

In fact, that disbelief is still hanging over my head despite the words from Bashiok. After all, Blizzard is first and foremost committed to making great games, and if they don’t meet that standard, they don’t get announced. Given their history, I think it’s entirely possible that a Diablo III console game could die on the doorstep — but here’s hoping it’ll actually see the light of day.

Now, if we could only get a release date!
