Warner Bros. Throws $9 million more at Green Lantern Post Production

Cautiously Optimistic

According to Blastr, Warner Bros. Studios has bumped the special effects budget on Green Lantern by $9 million, in an effort to “add things to make the movie better until the 11th hour.”

But apparently, this isn’t a last ditch effort to spruce up a movie that comes out in less than two months! No, they’re just making an already good movie $9 million better.

There is no problem on Green Lantern … We try to add things to make the movie better until the 11th hour. That doesn’t mean we’re risking the movie up to the 11th hour.

Even Variety agrees,

… the kind of sturm and drang that’s swirled around Green Lantern is actually par for the course on most visual effects-heavy tentpoles these days.

I myself was very surprised to find that Green Lantern had only cast certain characters like Kilowog within the last month or so, but was reassured that it’s not unusual for voice acting work to occur late in a movie’s production. Maybe it’s not actually a bad sign that GL got an extra $9 million to get ready for the screen. I’d love it if it turned out to be the lion-hearted sci-fi epic that it deserves to be.
