To be fair, this can all be boiled down to “don’t be a bunch of a-holes,” because really, there’s no reason to be a jerk about spoilers for Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. Last year, we ran the risk of being spoiled because (much like this year) the premiere for Avengers: Infinity War was on a Monday, and we had a full three days filled with spoilers to haunt us all until we could see the film.
This year, it’s the same deal. The premiere for Avengers: Endgame is taking place tonight, and … surprisingly, we’re going to see a lot of our favorite heroes back from their dusted deaths on the red carpet.
Well, at least we’ll have Anthony Mackie.

But with this premiere comes the knowledge that not everyone is going to be respectful of each other, and some may even openly tweet and/or spoil the movie just because they can. In an interview with Box Office Pro, Joe Russo talked about the journey the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken, but specifically in how spoilers have changed and traveled through the last 11 years:
“This is a culture that wants everything now, and it’s getting worse. The world is connected via social media, and information travels within seconds. If you’ve been following along with this narrative for 10 years, you’re going to want to protect yourself. It’s best to go in clean. I encourage people to go opening weekend because I’m sure everything is going to hit the Internet the moment the movie hits the screen.”
This came on the heels of their new letter. Last year before Avengers: Infinity War, the Russos told us that “Thanos demands our silence.” This year, it’s a bit nicer, but also, still, don’t spoil.

As a victim (yes, I’m calling myself a victim because I still feel ATTACKED) of last year’s “let’s DM spoilers to people who don’t want to be spoiled” initiative on Twitter, I think this is very noble of the Russos and the cast and crew of the film. That being said, I’d say maybe just don’t go online until your butt is sitting in the theater, because who knows what lurks out there in the deep dark web. Remember, Endgame leaks ended up on PORNHUB.
So what do I say to those trying to spoil the movie?
