Twitter Mocks Donald Trump’s Absurd Claim That Windmills Cause Cancer

The only person a windmill ever hurt was Don Quixote.

President Donald Trump lies all the time. This is a not a judgment, it’s a factual statement supported by evidence. Some of the recent things he’s lied about include his father’s birthplace, he claimed to know a lot about wind, he lied about there being a national emergency at the border.

In fact the Washington Post ran the numbers and found that in 2018, Trump averaged about 15 false claims a day. His latest lie involves green energy, specifically wind energy provided by windmills. During a Republican fundraiser, Trump mocked windmills, declaring that they were dangerous and caused cancer.

Trump said, “Hillary wanted to put up wind. Wind! If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value. And they say the noise causes cancer. You tell me that one, okay?” He followed up by saying, “And of course, it’s like a graveyard for birds, if you love birds, you’d never want to walk under a windmill.”

Trump’s beef with windmills dates back over a decade, when he fought the planned building of a windmill farm that could be seen from his country club in Aberdeen, Scotland. The protracted legal battle went all the way to the UK Supreme Court, where Trump not only lost, but was forced to pay the legal fees of the Scottish government.

Trump also falsely claimed that wind power turns off once the wind stops blowing (he made similar claims about solar power), saying “I told the story about, at CPAC, the woman, she wants to watch television and she says to her husband, ‘Is the wind blowing? I’d love to watch a show tonight, darling. The wind hasn’t blown for three days. I can’t watch television, darling. Darling, please, tell the wind to blow.'”

All of these statements are false and indicative of how ignorant Trump is about climate change, the environment, and green energy. And as with all of Trump’s gaffs, it quickly became meme fodder for Twitter.

This begs the question on many people’s minds: does Don Quixote Trump actually believe the bullshit he’s spouting, or does he think the world is as dumb as he is?
