If you were making a list of the all-time great female captains in science fiction, then Kate Mulgrew’s Captain Kathryn Janeway could easily earn a top spot. The brave commander of Star Trek: Voyager took to Twitter to show support for Brie Larson’s turn as Captain Marvel.

Mulgrew, who just wrapped the final season of Orange Is the New Black , was a major role model and heroine to a generation of geeky girls (and boys). It’s delightful to see her passing the torch from one Captain to another. Janeway was the first ever female captain in the Star Trek universe, with Voyager running for seven seasons on UPN (remember UPN?!) from 1995-2001. Janeway was last seen in the 2002 feature film Star Trek: Nemesis, where she had been promoted to admiral.

Now that OITNB is finished, and CBS All Access continues to launch new shows set in the Star Trek universe, it’s time for a Janeway spin-off series. After all, if Picard can get his own show, why not give Janeway a shot?
