The new season of The Magicians premieres on January 23rd and honestly we can’t wait. The SyFy series saw its third season end as the gang continued their epic quest of the seven keys to bring about the return of magic, only for the Librarians to swoop in and steal the power for themselves (sidebar: I love that The Magicians and Parks and Recreation have the same antipathy for librarians).

The trailer promises plenty of action and drama as the core group, whose memories were erased in the finale, must figure out how to navigate their new magic-free lives. We also get a glimpse at the oppressive, fascistic regime of the Librarians as they ration magic and persecute hedge witches. Oh, and there’s that whole “monster possessing Eliot” thing as well.

Showrunner Sera Gamble says of the upcoming season, “Season 4 deals with the regulation of magic. It’s back, but now under the strict control of the Library, which isn’t really what any of our characters had in mind when they saved magic last season … In fact, our heroes remain fugitives and have to find ways to act without being caught by the powers that be.”
