Rick and Morty Season 4 Has Begun Production

Good news for Ricky and Morty fans, the 4th season has officially entered production according to an interview with Justin Roiland, the co-creator of the series.

When the show received that huge 70-episode renewal back in May, it was seen as a huge boon to those of us who are fans of the show, yet there was some concern that it would lead to an even longer break between seasons. Well, that seems to not be the case and according to Roiland, the writing has begun.

“It’s exciting, it’s a little surreal,” Roiland said during an interview with Polygon. “Even just being in the writer’s room for half the day every day this week, the ideas are … it’s going to be great.”

Roiland also affirmed in that interview that the infamous gaps between seasons will no longer be an issue, which is great because I don’t think anyone wants to wait for 18-months again. Now that they are on the line for 70 episodes, Adult Swim is going to want to make good on that investment.

“We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster,” Roiland stated. “We’re not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We’re going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It’s going to be really cool.”

My only hope is that as the show moves forward, it will still retain the great writing that has allowed it to become one of the must-watch shows on television. Not to mention continuing to incorporate a diverse writing room. Dan Harmon, the other co-creator of the show, is an imperfect creator, but through his podcasts, he has shown to be open to criticism and wants to correct his flaws. He’s also been openly calling out racist and sexist fans of his show, which is a positive in my book.

Sadly, there is still no solid premiere date for Rick and Morty, but Roiland did hint that fans should be looking for sometimes in 2019 for Season 4. Until then we will have Big Mouth season two coming soon and hopefully, we will get some news about Bojack Horseman season five as well. There are just too many amazing animated shows out there.
