Marvel Revealed the Infinity War Scene Where Thor Meets the Guardians

As part of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards last night, Marvel released a longer clip of the Avengers: Infinity War scene where Thor meets the Guardians of the Galaxy. We previously saw some of this scene in the first Infinity War teaser trailer, where it had been slightly edited to hide any Thor: Ragnarok spoilers.

Neither Marvel nor Nickelodeon has posted the video on any of their social channels yet, but a fan did share a “low quality” recording of the scene on Twitter:

The new scene doesn’t reveal too much that we haven’t already seen. Most of it is devoted to humor, with Gamora and Drax complimenting Thor’s muscles. “He is not a dude. You’re a dude,” Drax tells Peter Quill. “This? This is a man. A handsome, muscular man.”

However, it’s clear that there’s some real carnage floating in space around the Guardians’ ship, as Mantis timidly asks, “What happened?” Based on the other scenes of devastation we’ve seen in the trailers, and the fact that Thor: Ragnarok ended with the Asgardian refugee ship encountering what appeared to be Thanos’s ship, it would appear that the Asgardians might be eliminated by the Mad Titan.

This also fits with what we’ve heard about Thor’s arc in the film. Joe Russo previously said that Thor “is at times hilarious and at times tragic in the film,” and he’s been touted as one of the characters with “a very important role.” Losing his entire people, potentially including his brother, would be the sort of devastating blow that would not only kindle his hatred for Thanos, but would fundamentally change the generally grinning and self-certain Thor. Much as I (and Chris Hemsworth himself) loved the Ragnarok version of Thor, I’m intrigued to see what the Russos have cooked up for the next phase of his evolution.
