We’re already getting an official Potter-universe origin story through the Fantastic Beasts movies, which will soon feature Jude Law as a young Dumbledore and his interactions with Gellert Grindelwald. We still have little idea where the series will go from there, though and this fan film is stepping up to fill in some gaps in the rise of Voldemort.
From Tryangle films, the crowdfunded, not-officially-sanctioned take on the Wizarding World literally looks pretty good in this early teaser, with some solid wand effects to kick things off and impressive visuals throughout. It’s still under production, but this early look definitely has us interested to see how things turn out, which was probably the production’s goal as they continue to take in donations to see the ambitious project through.
The film’s website says of the idea behind it, “What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back? There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.”
Like Fantastic Beasts, it’ll also feature its own Grindelwald, though from a different time period, but it doesn’t look like any other major players will be making appearances.
