Things We Saw Today: It’s A Ball Gown Made of Books!

Tor.com shared some amazing photos of the above ball gown, whose bodice is made from the spines of old books! (Worry not, Tor has been “assured that the spines had already long since fallen from their respective books and that, in fact, peeling spines is a very common issue for older books.”) The gown comes from designer Sylvie Facon and steampunk costumer Morgane E. Grosdemange (who took the photos). Alas, if only I had the occasion budget to wear it!

  • NASA has introduced “Spot the Station,” an interactive map to help you locate the International Space Station (ISS), which is the third brightest object in the sky, while you’re stargazing. (via NASA)
  • The Hollywood Reporter shared an interesting bit of cinema history, which I’d personally forgotten about. Though the Marvel movies are now most closely associated with post-credits scenes, writer Josh Spiegel argues that Pirates of the Caribbean is really the franchise that kicked off the craze.
  • Disney’s live-action Beauty & The Beast has passed $500 million in worldwide box office. (via Deadline)
  • Check out the trailer for this incredibly well-made fan film, Voldemort: Origins of the Heir. In the film, Grisha Mac Laggen, the heir of Gryffindor, goes after Tom Riddle. (via io9)
