Elisabeth Moss on Dystopia Becoming Real and an Eerie New Clip From The Handmaid’s Tale

Recommended Videos

The Handmaid’s Tale is one of the most anticipated and timely shows coming to television, a face that’s been noted by anyone who’s paying attention to America now. Elisabeth Moss went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to talk about vacations, growing up with musician parents, and how the adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel has some uncanny resemblance.

The quotations around “fictional” in the title of the Youtube clip really says it all, doesn’t it? When Colbert asks her to give a summary of the premise, she jokes:

“It’s about, in America, a totalitarian right-wing, fundamentalist, regime takes over the country, women are enslaved and made to be breeding hosts, all reproductive rights are stripped and the constitution is blow to smithereens, so I don’t know if you can imagine such a world. Try to go there, just try.”

The segment also features a short clip which you can go directly to at the 7:26 mark, of Moss’ Offred and Alexis Bledel’s Ofglen talking to one another. While those familiar with the text won’t find any spoilers, I’d suggest those trying to enter with a blank slate skip this clip since the relationship between these two is one that develops over time.

The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Wednesday, the 26th. Are you looking forward to it?
