Issa Rae and Jussie Smollett Teaming up for Giants, a New YouTube Series

Insecure star Issa Rae and Empire’s Jussie Smollett are teaming up for a new website series to be produced by Rae’s production company. According to the Huffington Post, Giants tells the story of three black millennials―Malachi, Journee and Ade―who are approaching 30 and having a hard time getting their lives together. While Smollett and Rae will act as executive producers, they won’t be starring it.

The series was created, written and directed by James Bland, who will also star. Joining him in the cast are Vanessa Baden and William Catlett, among others. Bland said that the show “explores social issues that are either ignored or stigmatized by the black community” before adding, “and regardless of race, these characters’ experiences are relatable to almost anyone because they learn the hard way that when life kicks your ass, you either lie down or fight back.”

The show successfully raised more than $11,000 on Indiegogo and has already shot six 2o-minute episodes. Giants is slated to premiere on January 25 at 8 p.m. EST.
