If you haven’t yet experienced the charming and funny TV experience that is The Goldbergs, then you’re missing out. Loosely based on creator Adam F. Goldberg’s childhood, the sitcom centers on the aspiring writer and his colorful family who live in the Philadelphia area during the ’80s. Because of its awesome time setting, the show is able to make references to a number of cool things, like the American Gladiators and America’s Funniest Home Videos. The show even featured an episode-long spoof of the John Hughes classic, The Breakfast Club.
Now, the comedy is taking on Tim Burton’s Batman, and they’re bringing in director Kevin Smith for reinforcements. He’s set to guest direct the episode based on the hype behind the movie, so expect plenty of Easter eggs. This comes after he directed an episode of The Flash and Supergirl this season—both well received by critics and fans alike. Obviously, the nerd is strong with this one, and he’s more than up for the task.
“I grew up watching the Adam West Batman, and I was in a sold out movie theater for Tim Burton’s Batman on opening day, June 23rd, 1989, so I can’t wait to recreate those early eras of Bat-amania in the Goldbergs Universe,” Smith said. According to Newsarama, the episode will film later in the month and is expected to air sometime in the spring.
