George Takei Offers Words of Comfort and Inspiration to Those of Us Still in Shock

Recommended Videos

It’s a really tough day for us, and George Takei has some words for those of us who might feel hopeless, devastated, and at a loss. In the face of crisis and tragedy, I’m not usually one to prioritize statements from celebrities, but Takei’s words really brought me some comfort.

Born in 1937, Takei has endured a lot of ugly history from Japanese internment, LGBTQ+ discrimination, and more—and yet his dedication and perseverance has not wavered. One part of me is so sad that he has to continue to fight after all this time, but if that strength isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is. During the Broadway run of Allegiance, Takei saved a seat for Trump at every performance in hopes he would educate himself about the history of internment camps in America. In 7 tweets, the activist and actor addresses the shock that many of us felt, and implores us to continue moving forward and spreading love.

Here’s the full series:

Thank you, George Takei.
